On Wednesday, King Felipe and Queen Letizia joined Pope Leo XIV at the Basilica of La Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
The visit marked a profound double occasion: the exact centenary of visionary architect Antoni Gaudí’s death and the official blessing of the newly completed Tower of Jesus Christ. Standing at a monumental 172.5 meters and crowned with a four-armed cross, the tower's completion officially seals the Sagrada Família's status as the tallest church building in the world.

Following a private prayer at Gaudí’s tomb in the crypt, the Pope presided over a Solemn Mass before a congregation of 8,000 dignitaries and worshippers, while over 100,000 people lined the surrounding streets. Delivering his homily in both Spanish and Catalan, Pope Leo praised the basilica as an "eloquent catechesis made of stones, colors, and light," utilizing the architectural marvel to deliver a poignant global message of faith, unity, and peace.
Queen Letizia observed the privilège du blanc, the rare protocol allowing certain Catholic queens to wear white in the Pope’s presence.
She looked impeccably elegant in a bespoke white Redondo Brand pencil dress previously wore to the Pope’s inaugural Mass at the Vatican in May 2025.
