On Tuesday, King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended the institutional ceremony commemorating the 47th anniversary of Spain’s 1978 Constitution at the Cortes Generales in Madrid.
This week marks a historic milestone, as the 1978 Constitution has officially surpassed the 1876 Constitution in longevity, becoming the longest-serving Fundamental Law in Spain’s history.
Following the institutional event, Their Majesties inaugurated the exhibition ‘The Spanish Constitution of 1978: Our Longest-Lasting Constitution. A Project, a Consensus, a Country of Rights and Freedoms’.
For the occasion, Queen Letizia revisited her navy tweed skirt suit, first worn in February 2025 for a luncheon with the President of Egypt (shown below).

On Friday, King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended the exhibition “In Memoriam Tomás y Valiente. 1996–2026” at the Faculty of Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), commemorating the 30th anniversary of the assassination of Francisco Tomás y Valiente by the terrorist organization ETA.
Francisco Tomás y Valiente was a distinguished jurist and professor at UAM, and each year the Faculty of Law honors his lasting academic and institutional legacy.
