Queen Letizia Epitomizes Summer Elegance in a White Sybilla Dress at Balearic Islands Reception

The King and Queen of Spain hosted the Balearic Islands reception on Tuesday evening at Marivent Palace in Palma, Mallorca.

Their Majesties were joined by their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, along with King Felipe's mother, Queen Sofia.

The reception is held annually during the royal family’s summer stay in Mallorca. Their Majesties welcome hundreds of guests from the Balearic community, including politicians, academics, welfare organizations, and sports figures.

Queen Letizia epitomized summer elegance in a white Sybilla dress (with thanks to Nuria from Vanitas for the info). The silhouette features a split V-neckline, softly voluminous elbow-length sleeves, a defined waistband, and a flowing A-line skirt. Cleverly placed sheer directional stripes lend the minimalist design a modern, sophisticated edge.

She complemented the striped dress with her gold Aquazzura 'Sundance 50' sandals, whose ribbed metallic leather echoed the dress's linear pattern.

What a unique, white dress. I love the way that the stripes in the fabric are positioned in many different directions. I don't care for the very loud prints worn by the other three Royal ladies.

From a distance you can't see the subtle print or detailing of the fabric. I think it's beautiful. The design of the dress is also gorgeous. I like everything about it including the unusual pleat in the front of the skirt. Letizia wins the style award on this occasion.

This is a beautiful dress. I love the skirt of the dress, nice movement and flow. The dress looks stunning, the style of the pattern is quite unique, I like this effect.

I love this Sybilla dress on Letizia, as you indicate, it is quite the last word in summer elegance. I'm tempted to wonder if the Queen is hoping to quietly step back from the more partylike colour of her daughters, but, if so, I wonder if she hasn't inadvertently made herself the leading figure of good taste against the relative ebullience of the young.

The Sybilla contrast stripes are deftly used to emphasize the neat bodice on Letizia, the slim high waistband, and the A-line skirt, and then exploited even more in the long front pleat so that horizontal lines end up against the diagonals of the outer skirt. I love the softening effect of the translucent sleeves which allow more diagonal lines to run to her elbows in a charming three-quarters length.

The linear effect is ably reflected also in the lovely pale gold Aquazzura Sundance sandals and even in the pattern of the Gold & Roses Skyline Crawler earrings.

Both Eleanor and Sofia look well in the pretty colours they have chosen, Eleanor's Thinking MU two-piece sits very well. I'm not sure Sofia's Zara Metal Sun Belt was wise, but in itself it is a fun item. The stand-out look for the evening has to be Leonor's intricately curled and amazing hair, which wouldn't look out of place at a disco.
