Queen Letizia in patriotic red for National Day celebrations

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, joined by their eldest daughter, Princess Leonor, took part in Spain's National Day celebrations in Madrid. Absent from the event was their youngest daughter, Infanta Sofía, who is currently pursuing her studies at UWC Atlantic College in Wales.

Spain's National Day, observed annually on October 12th, commemorates Christopher Columbus's 1492 arrival in the Americas. The holiday is highlighted by a military parade, showcasing the nation's armed forces and celebrating Spanish history and heritage.

Following the parade, Their Majesties hosted a reception in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace. The event welcomed diplomats and prominent Spanish dignitaries.

I love the dress and the accessories but the trench coat is horribly oversized and ill-fitting.

A neutral colour trench coat is always in style and comes in handy on a rainy day. I'm glad Letizia picked one that was long enough to cover the length of the dress. While the red dress is lovely I would hate to see it peeking out beyond the coat as we have seen in the past.

Good point about the dress length, it is a welcome sight to see that old rule observed here. We see so much of 'anything goes' these days, and I'm in favour of cover-up in this case :)

I find the new Hugo Boss trench trés chic on Letizia with its clean lines. The red Poete dress is a good way to display the national colour while being comfortable and conventional in style. I'm not a fan of fussy fussy bows. The red accessories are great with the dress and contrast nicely with the pale neutral of the coat. The cabochon ruby earrings remain as fabulous as ever.

I really enjoyed the video of the parade. The pageantry is very well done. The King is a picture of dignity and leadership.

I like the red dress, shoes and purse, that Letizia wore. The trench coat looks a bit big on her, but it has a nice design.

I love the trench coat! The coat and the red dress are the same length which I love. The red dress is beautiful, I like the style. Very elegant. The earrings are gorgeous. I love the red shoes.
