On Tuesday evening, King Felipe and Queen Letizia presided over the presentation of the 42nd edition of the Francisco Cerecedo Journalism Award at the Ritz Hotel in Madrid.
The award, granted by the Association of European Journalists, recognizes careers distinguished by talent, originality, independence from power, and a commitment to promoting freedom of expression.
For the occasion, Queen Letizia wore a burgundy ensemble, pairing her Falconeri Ultrasoft Cashmere Crewneck Sweater with a new Massimo Dutti sequin long skirt.
Her accessories included the Magrit ‘Lea’ clutch and the Magrit ‘Clara’ pumps, both in matching burgundy.
In an unusual move for the Queen, who rarely wears necklaces, Letizia chose coordinated gold-and-silver jewellery by the affordable Portuguese brand Parfois: a short bicolour link necklace and matching hoop earrings.

I'm not sure the sequined skirt is appropriate for this occasion. I don't like the shiny, glittery look. It looks cheap. It would work for dancing rather than journalism. I like how Letizia used the bold necklace to enliven the conservative sweater.

I like that the entire outfit is monochromatic, or all one colour. Not certain if the top fully matches the bottom. Somehow a crew neck sweater (even in cashmere) seems somewhat casual with a sequin skirt. Being the same color and adding the statement necklace, however, does help tie the top and bottom together.

I don't normally like sequins but this skirt is appealing to me. Love the color, rich burgundy. Her jumper looks good and works in well. Her clutch and shoes are a good color.

I’m not a fan of the outfit—especially the sequin skirt—but I do love the colour, and the jewellery is absolutely stunning. It’s wonderful to see Queen Letizia wear a necklace, and the pieces look far more luxurious than their price suggests.

This IS what everybody is wearing in Spain nowadays, Letizia is only a copycat of the last in Europe, a sweeter with a squins skirt.

It is a classic combination and seems appropriate for the journalism awards to have a touch of glitter.

I truly admire Letizia for rocking this midi-length Massimo Dutti sequin skirt, it's so characteristic of her to take something within the classic repertoire and then take it up a notch. It looks wonderful with her burgundy Falconeri cashmere. The band of plain fabric round the hem helps keep the skirt dignified and less disco.
