Queen Letizia Showcases an Elegant Grey-and-Pink Look During the Official Welcome to China12/11/2025
On Wednesday, King Felipe and Queen Letizia continued their State Visit to China. They were officially welcomed by President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan at the Great Hall of the People.
After the delegations exchanged greetings, the national anthems of both countries were played, and King Felipe and President Xi Jinping reviewed the troops rendering honours.
An official photograph followed, after which the King and the President held a bilateral meeting during which nine agreements between the two countries were signed.
Meanwhile, Queen Letizia and the First Lady visited the Demonstration Center for Services for People with Disabilities, China’s most specialized and comprehensive provincial-level center for people with special needs. They toured the facility and met with staff and patients.
Following this, King Felipe and Queen Letizia went to Tiananmen Square, where they laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes.
For her full day of engagements in Beijing, Queen Letizia chose a timeless ensemble in shades of grey and pink.
She debuted a grey Carolina Herrera wool-cashmere coat adorned with large embroidered peonies, a flower highly symbolic in Chinese culture and often called “the king of flowers.” First seen on the Carolina Herrera Fall ’24 runway, this collarless midi coat features an A-line silhouette, a concealed placket, and is crafted in the USA.
Below is a closer look at the embroidered detail.
Beneath the coat, Queen Letizia wore a powder-pink wool crepe midi dress by The 2nd Skin Co.
Complementing the dress, she accessorized with custom pink Magrit pieces—the ‘Carlota’ slingback leather pumps and a top-handle structured flap bag—both previously worn together during last year’s State Visit to Italy.
Completing the look were her Gold & Roses 'Shewel' Triple Hoops.

Pink and grey is one of my favourite colour combinations, and Queen Letizia has executed it beautifully. The peony detailing on the coat is exquisite, and I love the cultural reference. The Queen looks so youthful in this soft shade of pink, and her accessories complement the look perfectly.

I applaud CH for coming up with such a different coat design. I have never seen a coat with embroidery and the floral design is amazing. The coat compliments the beautiful pink dress underneath. I do prefer the coat without the belt because it obscures the flowers and makes it too busy.

I agree, the belt does make the ensemble look busy. Not sure why it was necessary. The coat would have looked more refined without it.

I think she felt cold outside, because once inside she took the belt off.

The coat is gorgeous, the color combination is striking and very attractive, Pink and Grey beautiful blended colors. The floral design/embroidery is beautifully and tastefully done. Its very effective and proportionate. I love the fact the Queen has gone with a coat this time that is so different to the norm and individual. I prefer the coat with the belt.

Never in a million years would I ever want to wear such a coat, but equally I want to applaud Letizia for such an outstanding choice for this event. The extraordinary bold flowers could not be a more diplomatic choice for China.
