Queen Letizia chaired the seventh annual Forum Against Cancer meeting in Madrid today, organized as part of the events to mark World Cancer Day on February 4th.
In her role as honorary president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Her Majesty delivered a short speech to open the session. She made a deeply personal remark related to loved ones dealing with a cancer diagnosis. The Queen said (translated): "Five weeks ago a person I love very much was diagnosed with a complicated cancer, it is not the first time in my personal life, but it is the most recent case.” Here is the full transcript of the speech, or you can watch it below:
Queen Letizia stepped out in a chic yet business-like look for today's conference. She mixed new with old to create a fresh ensemble.
Sticking to a simple colour pallet of navy and white, Letizia teamed her Hugo Boss 'Banora' silk blouse (£169) with a new navy skirt.
The knee-length skirt is reportedly by Carolina Herrera. I have been unable to locate the style in the designer's inventory but the skirt detail on the green dress shown below from Herrera's current collection is very similar to the pleated flounce hem on Letizia's skirt
The Spanish Queen added to her stylish ensemble with a navy Hugo Boss coat draped over her shoulders. She has had the piece for a few years and first wore it to a board meeting with the AECC in December 2014.
Letizia coordinated the look with her Magrit 'Claudia' slingback pumps in navy leather, and ocean blue Felipe Varela Clutch with Swarovski Crystals.
She finished the outfit with a new pair of crystal earrings. They are the 'Shi' style (€129.90) by Spanish jewellery brand, Luxenter. The open teardrop earrings feature a mix green and blue hydrothermal quartz stones set in silver black rhodium.
