The National Day is an annual national holiday that commemorates the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus for Spain on 12th October 1492. It is intended to solemnly remember moments of collective history that are part of the common historical, cultural and social heritage, assumed as such by the vast majority of citizens.
Their Majesties presided over the solemn act of homage to the National Flag and the military parade held in the Plaza de Lima.
Afterwards, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia hosted the traditional commemorative reception of National Day at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
Queen Letizia premiered a wrap-effect dress by a label we have not seen her wear before.
The pale blue belted dress was created by Spanish fashion designer, Maria Barragán. The eponymous brand specializes in Haute Couture and custom-made pieces, and has workshops in Madrid and Almería.
