Their Majesties accompanied by Royal Highnesses, Leonor, Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía, presided over the Fiesta Nacional (National Day) celebration at Palacio Real, Madrid.
As a result of COVID-19, the celebration was held in a reduced format. The event consisted of the raising of the flag, a tribute to those who have given their lives for Spain, awarding of decorations and a small parade.
National Day is held annually on October 12th, it commemorates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's first arrival in the Americas in 1492. It is widely celebrated throughout the Americas, it is known as Columbus Day in the United States and as Día de la Raza in various Hispanic American countries.

She always wears Felipe Varela on the National Day, this one has been the first she has not worn something new. However she has remained loyal to her friend, Varela.

Nicely tailored coat and red is wonderful on Letizia. I don't care for the ties as closures, finding them a bit messy looking. I'm not sure that I like the burgundy dress underneath. I suppose it is edgy, but to me the two colours clash. The shoes do help in bringing the two together but still I'd prefer that the dress underneath be black, navy, grey or red.

Whenever the Queen wears this ensemble, I am stunned by the contrast in colour. The scarlet red appears almost sharp against the sumptuous burgundy velvet. Subtle details are blurred, the curved stand collar, waist panel and slit cuffs take prominence, accentuating the immaculate cut of the coat. Accessories are flawless, the clutch matches perfectly in colour blending into the coat. The patent pumps add further opulence and ground the look. It's wonderful to see an overview of previous years’ outfits. Felipe Varela has created some truly beautiful pieces for this event, it's impossible to pick a favourite! 2015's clean lines and French navy was irresistibly chic. 2016's timeless coatdress, revealed Letizia's delicate shoulder line, with the open collar balancing the intricate embroidery and heavy fabric. Lastly, 2017's skirt suit transports me to a romantic black and white movie surrounded by steam trains and rainfall.

This coat is outstanding. Superbly fine details could almost be overlooked, the opening at the cuffs, curving of the collar.. The coat is beautifully crafted, the colour alone is stunning to look at. The Lodi pumps are simply divine. Gorgeous ruby and diamond dangle earrings are subtle, delicate choice. One of the more elegant looks I have seen of late.

Does anyone know what Leonore's red and white bow means?

It is the Order of the Golden Fleece which she was awarded in 2018: https://www.queenletiziastyle.com/blog/queen-letizia-is-regal-in-red-for-leonors-order-of-the-golden-fleece-ceremony

This time the camera shows the detailing of the stitching on the coat at the waist and hips. Varela subtly added volume to his client's slim proportions. The dress as seen in Mexico, is simply cut, leaving the vibrant coat as the focal point. The shoes and purse are perfect accessories for this outfit. The two tones of the same color add interest, as opposed to the heaviness of black or the matronly look of a contrast.

It's a huge relief to see Letizia in sleek Varela once again, the difference really shows after so much High Street over the summer. I don't much care for the ties on the front of the coat but they are skilfully enough done not to cause untidiness. The cut of the coat is gorgeous, skimming in a princess line over her figure. I like the colour of the dress underneath but regret that it too seems to have another tie at the throat which is overkill in my view. The Lodi ombre shoes are a lovely touch to tie the red tones together, the ruby drop earrings sublime and the matching Varela clutch smart and perfect. A wonderful look.
