Today, Queen Letizia attended a ceremony in honour of the Spanish Civil Guard at the Vitoria-Gasteiz barracks in Basque Country. In Spain, the Civil Guard is a military force charged with police duties both nationally and abroad.
She delivered the flag to the 11th National Teach Zone of the Civil Guard, and made a speech to the hundreds of Civil Guard officials and members of the public who had gathered for the occasion.
Tradition dedicates that the female bearer of the flag should wear black and accessorize with a Spanish mantilla. Prior to becoming Queen, Letizia had adhered to this dress code.
However on this instance, her first as Queen, Her Majesty broke with tradition and opted for a white ensemble. Although it is a tradition and not an obligation to wear black, I think Queen Letizia showed honour and respect for the occasion by repeating the outfit she wore on the day of her husband's Proclamation as King.
To refresh your memories, the ensemble consists of a Felipe Varela white sheath crepe dress topped with a matching coat featuring a neckline embellished with gradient ruby, amber and amethyst crystals. On her left chest was pinned the Commander dame's bow of the Order of Charles III which she also wore on the day of the Proclamation.
Today, Queen Letizia accessorised the outfit with her Magrit nude patent shoes and matching envelope clutch handbag.
Queen Letizia wore her hair up which showed off her pink pearl drop earrings.
While I was surprised Queen Letizia broke with sartorial tradition and recycled a historic outfit, I commend her for setting her own protocol. It reaffirms the modern Queen that she is.

Queen Letizia joined her husband, King Felipe at the Royal Palace of Madrid to welcome the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella.
Following this meeting, their Majesties hosted a luncheon in honour of President Mattarella's first visit to Spain.
Queen Letizia premiered an all-blue ensemble for the occasion, and styled her short hair with chic a tousled wave.
She wore a pretty Carolina Herrera Flower Fil Coupe Party Skirt (US$2490). The midi skirt features multi coloured flower fil coupe and a full box-pleated silhouette.
Some commentators believe Queen Letizia teamed the skirt with the Carolina Herrera dark navy taffeta button-down shirt, but I'm not convinced. When I compare the stock photo with Letizia's shirt, the difference is evident. Letizia's blouse appears to be made from fluid silk and does not have darted seams like the CH taffeta shirt. The shirt may still be by Carolina Herrera but I'm classifying it as unidentified.
Letizia wore a new pair of navy suede strappy heels also by Carolina Herrera from the Spring 2015 collection.
Her Majesty finished the outfit with a skinny navy suede belt and her Felipe Varela clutch.
Unfortunately there were very limited photos from today's event and I was unable to find a photo that showed Queen Letizia's earrings. Núria Tiburcio from Vanitatis magazine tells me the are the TOUS blue hydrothermal quartz and amber earrings which she debuted last month.

On Friday, the Queen of Spain presided over the opening ceremony of the Red Cross & Red Crescent World Day commemorations in Valladolid. This event served to highlight the importance of the staff and volunteers of these two organizations, which save lives and assist vulnerable communities worldwide. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent is the largest humanitarian network in the world.
Her Majesty dressed conservatively, recycling her Felipe Varela white bouclé blazer, Magrit navy leather pumps and donning a new pair of Hugo Boss 'Temuna' trousers (£179.00).
The fil-a-fil suiting fabric of the pants is cut from a lustrous wool blend. The trousers feature a chic, low waist that is fastened with a hook, button and zip. They are finished with pressed leg creases. The 'Temuna' style is currently available at Hugo Boss and is on sale at Nordstrom.
Queen Letizia added a touch of interest to her polished outfit by premiering a tribal inspired clutch bag from high-street brand, Mango.
This cheerful cotton clutch features decorative ethnic embroidery. It has a flap front with snap button fastening and top zip fastening. It is in stock at Mango UK, Mango USA, and Amazon.
Letizia completed the ensemble with her TOUS dangle cultured freshwater pearl earrings which she debuted last month.

Queen Letizia looked radiant at today's Journalism awards, wearing a silk beige trench trimmed with sparkling ruby and amber crystals at the collar and cuffs.
The Queen joined her husband, King Felipe to deliver the XXXII edition of the International Prize "King of Spain" Journalism and the XI edition of "Don Quixote" Journalism Prize.
I had always hoped we would see Queen Letizia wear this beautiful Felipe Varela jewel encrusted trench coat again after she premiered it in February last year at the ARCO 2014 fair:
Today she paired the double-breasted belted trench coat with her beige Magrit patent leather pumps and a bespoke burgundy suede clutch bag modelled on Magrit's 'Kares' model (US$219).
Letizia doesn't usually wear a lot of jewelry but she always completes her outfits with a pair of earrings. Hence I was surprised she didn't wear any today. Perhaps she thought the coat had enough bling!
Queen Letizia, honorary president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and its Scientific Foundation, chaired one of the regular meetings at the headquarters of the organization. She was photographed arriving to the meeting.
The agenda of today's two hour long meeting was to map the Strategic Plan for the Scientific Foundation of the AECC.
There were no surprises with Queen Letizia's choice of outfit today. She kept her look professional and recycled pieces she has worn on many occasions.
She sported her Mango azure ethnic fabric jacket. The jacket is trimmed with rope and a frayed edge. The round neckline is finished with a decorative gold chain.
Letizia wore a new white blouse featuring a round neckline with pin-tucked front. It's reminiscent of her many Hugo Boss blouses but I have been unable to identify the style.
She coordinated the jacket with her trusty Hugo Boss 'Tuliana' navy trousers.
Letizia accessorized the pants with a new snake print belt. It appears to be the Uterque python skinny belt featuring a silver tone buckle and two belt loop keepers.
Letizia carried her Hugo Boss 'Medi-F' business bag and wore her navy pointed-toe pumps which she debuted earlier this month at a meeting with the Spanish Red Cross.
The Links of London Hope Egg earrings added a hint of sparkle to her outfit.
Upon leaving the meeting, Her Majesty donned some chic new sunglasses.
She was first spotted wearing them a few days ago while travelling to her daughters school.
I was unable to identify them then because I didn't have clear photos, but judging from today's photos, they appear to be these sunnies from the Carolina Herrera 2015 collection. The sunglasses are all-black and oversized, with curved arms which are reinforced with a delicate silver insertion.
Unfortunately I have been unable to find them in stock online.
