Leonor, Princess of Asturias celebrated her 18th birthday today, marking a major milestone in her journey as heir to the Spanish throne.
The celebrations began with a swearing-in ceremony at the Spanish parliament in Madrid, where Princess Leonor pledged her allegiance to the Spanish Constitution. The ceremony was attended by her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, and her younger sister, Infanta Sofia.
After the oath ceremony, King Felipe VI bestowed upon his eldest daughter the Collar of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Charles III, the highest honor of the Spanish Kingdom. This solemn ceremony took place at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
Subsequently, a lunch was offered and attended by government officials.
In addition to the official celebrations, Leonor's birthday was also celebrated by the Spanish people. Many people took to the streets of Madrid and other cities to wave Spanish flags and cheer for the future queen.
For the official ceremonies, Queen Letizia brought back the peacock blue Carolina Herrera Keyhole Dress, first worn during last year's state visit to Germany.
She again accessorized the dress with a tonal top-handle bag by Magrit, but today, she chose a new pair of nude leather mid-heel pumps, although their brand remains unidentified.
Letizia personalized her outfit by adorning the Bulgari aquamarine and diamond hoops, which were said to be a gift from the luxury Italian jeweler in celebration of Princess Leonor's birth.
The earrings feature detachable aquamarine drops, which were initially introduced in May 2006.
They were also worn by Princess Leonor for the first time at the 2023 Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony earlier this month.
Her Majesty wrapped herself in the tan Carolina Herrera Fur Collar Cape as she joined her family for a walkabout to greet the members of the public who had gathered outside the Royal Palace to convey their birthday wishes to Leonor.
In the evening, the royal family hosted a private birthday party at the Royal Palace of El Pardo. Queen Letizia was seen wearing a stack of joyas de pasar diamond bracelets on her left arm as she arrived at the Palace.
