Today was a very special day for the Spanish Royal Family!
Not only was it Princess Leonor's 13th birthday, it was also the day of her first public speech!
The princess, heir to the Spanish throne, joined her father on stage for the reading of the Spanish Constitution for the 40th anniversary of its approval by the Congress at the Cervantes Institute in Madrid.
For her daughter's big day, Queen Letizia re-wore the grey-blue Felipe Varela belted wool jacket with embroidered box-pleat skirt.
This is the forth occasion Letizia has worn the set which she debuted at the 2017 National Day ceremony.
She supplemented the ensemble with her custom Magrit 'Hawa' clutch and Nina Ricci pointed toe pumps.
Letizia topped off the look with Aldao aquamarine earrings - a gift from the Spanish jewelery house following the birth of Leonor.

The Queen of Spain flew to Switzerland today to attend the First WHO Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health under the motto "Improving air quality, combating climate change – saving lives".
Her Majesty arrived at the WHO headquarters in Geneva wearing a new tweed-style coat.
It is the Hugo Boss 'Carmala' coat. The mottled black and white wool-blend coat has a wrap-style single-breasted front with button closure and self-tie belt.
Underneath it Letizia wore a new charcoal grey skirt suit with a white drape-front blouse. The blazer is double breasted, and the a-line skirt has a hi-low hemline. Unfortunately I do not know the brand(s) of the pieces.
She carried her Hugo Boss 'Fanila' clutch and wore a new pair of black over-the-knee high leather boots.
Some suggest they are these boots by Adolfo Domínguez, but I'm not entirely convinced. Letizia's boots appear to be made from a supple matte leather and I think they have a seam down the centre, and a black sole. I'll hold off from making a conclusive ID until we see more photos.
Letizia topped off the look her diamond square halo earrings.
Queen Letizia traveled to Valladolid this afternoon to attend the screening of the silent classic film film "Safety Last!" as part of the 63rd edition of the Valladolid International Film Week.
Her Majesty was accompanied by the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra.
Letizia sported an edgy black pant suit look.
The ensemble consisted of a new black Emporio Armani peplum leather jacket (US$1,495) featuring a peplum waist with a drawstring ribbon tie. The clean lines of the simple crewneck collar and exposed seams give the lambskin jacket a corset-like appearance. The jacket is reduced down to $747 at Neiman Marcus and on sale for $897 at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Letizia coordinated it with a new pair of black silk crepe wide-leg trousers by Carolina Herrera ($1,290). The pants are available at Nieman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman.
She arrived at the Miguel Delibes Cultural Center carrying a new black leather handbag. If anyone recognizes it, please drop me a line!
Her new shoes are a bespoke mule style pump by Magrit, perhaps based on this model by the Spanish shoemaker.
Letizia finished the look with her gold circle stud earrings first worn in January 2015 at an AECC meeting in Madrid.
They have not been identified but one of our readers Mary suggests they could be by Ansorena, a jeweler closely linked to the Spanish Royal House. You may recall, Ansorena was commissioned to make the "Princess" Fleur de Lys tiara by Felipe in 2009 for Letizia on the occasion of their 5th wedding anniversary.
The style above are the the Ansorena Ars Design Rose Gold earrings (€1,450). We are waiting on confirmation.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia hosted a luncheon for the President of Germany, Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife, Mrs. Elke Büdenbender who are on an official visit to Spain.
The Spanish queen wore a new dark red set by German brand Hugo Boss for this stately occasion held in the Royal Palace in Madrid.
The top is the BOSS 'Burana' Split-Sleeve Blouse with bow details (US$295). It is available at Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and House of Fraser.
She teamed it with the 'Vermana' A-line midi skirt (US$348) made from a blend of Italian virgin wool and cashmere. It's available at Hugo Boss and House of Fraser.
Queen Letizia coordinated the ensemble with a new pair of bespoke leather and suede trim pumps by Magrit in a matching dark red tone.
In a rare sight, Queen Letizia accessorized with a necklace featuring a graduated string of white round pearls and a gem clasp.
It's a piece she has not worn before and different to the pearl necklace she wore for the 2015 Princess of Asturias awards ceremony contrary to what some royal bloggers have claimed. I notice they have different clasps.
NECKLACE UPDATE (22 Nov 2018):
Núria Tiburcio from Vanitatis tells me that Casa Real confirmed this is a Joyas de Pasar piece. The necklace Queen Letizia wore for the 2015 Princess of Asturias awards ceremony (shown above) is NOT a necklace from the Joyas de Pasar. The pearl necklace worn today was originally a wedding gift from King Alfonso XII of Spain to his first wife Maria de las Mercedes of Orléans. Upon her untimely death in 1878 it reverted to the Crown and later Queen Ena made it part of the Joyas de Pasar.
Letizia complemented the heirloom necklace with small pearl stud earrings. They appear to be the TOUS White Gold Puppies Earrings with Diamonds (US$640).
The King and Queen of Spain delivered the XXXV edition of the "Francisco Cerecedo" Journalism Award to Rubén Amón this evening at the Hotel Palace in Madrid.
The purpose of the annual award is to honor journalists who battle the pressures and influences of power, and promote freedom of expression.
Queen Letizia premiered a new Carolina Herrera V-neckline black neoprene dress with white cut-out detail at the waist and long midi flared skirt.
She coordinated the dress with a new pair of black and white pointed toe pumps. They are a bespoke design by Magrit.
The Queen also premiered a new braided clutch bag. It is the Bottega Veneta's iconic 'Knot' clutch (US$2,200). It features the classic intreccio Impero weave against a snakeskin trim, as well as the knotted top clasp made from the label's signature "Brunito" gunmetal-tone hardware. The bag is available from Bottega Veneta, and My Theresea.
Letizia finished the look with a new pair sparkly rhinestone hoop earrings.
Some have suggested the Coolook 'Venus' zirconia hoop earrings as a possibility, but they seem to have a hinge at the bottom, which Letizia's earrings do not have.
FASHION FLASHBACK
Queen Letizia has favored a dark palette for this event since 2004. For her first attendance as a newly crowned princess, Letizia wore a brown brocade coat. From 2005 it has become somewhat of tradition for Letizia to wear black to this awards ceremony. She was absent in 2006 having just given birth to her first child, Leonor. Last year she surprised us with a Teresa Helbig white flapper-style dress. This year it was back to black. Do you have a favourite look?
On the final day of the Princess of Asturias Awards, King Felipe & Queen Letizia paid a visit to Moal (Cangas de Narcea), this year's winner of the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award.
Each year, a town or village in the Asturias region is recognized for making an extraordinary contribution to protect and conserve the environmental, historical or artistic settings of its surroundings, or carried out exceptional community work.

On Friday evening, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia presided over the 2018 Princess of Asturias awards ceremony held at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo.
As in previous years, Their Majesties were joined by Felipe's mother, Queen Sofia for the traditional walk on the blue carpet.
Once inside the theater, Felipe and Letizia took their places at the head table to deliver the awards, while Sofia went to the Royal Box.
The Princess of Asturias Awards is a series of annual prizes awarded by the Princess of Asturias Foundation to individuals, entities or organisations who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. Founded in 1980 by Felipe, it was previously known as the Prince of Asturias Awards but renamed in 2015 to reflect the country's new heir to the Spanish throne, Princess Leonor.
This event is one of the most anticipated on the Spanish royal calendar and we are always excited to see what Queen Letizia will premier at this annual gala. Tonight she did not disappoint! Letizia looked regal in an intricately embroidered Felipe Varela midi dress. The dress is a patchwork of a jacquard reptile-skin pattern, and hand-embroidered glass bead motifs.
Letizia coordinated this evening's look with her custom black Magrit 'Nassa' clutch and a new pair of bespoke leather-trimmed mesh peep-toe platform heels also by Magrit.
She topped off the look with the Joyas de pasar diamond chanton earrings, once the property of Queen Ena and now part of the royal jewelry collection for the select use of Spanish queens.

FASHION FLASHBACK
We expected Queen Letizia to wear a number by her go-to designer Felipe Varela like she had done for the past four years since attending in her role as Queen consort. But this year she dropped the Spanish couturier in favor of an off-the-rack little black dress by Italian luxury brand Emporio Armani. Were you surprised by Queen Letizia's choice?
