The King and Queen of Spain attended the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday to bid farewell to the monarch they affectionately called 'Aunt Lilibet'.
They gathered with 2000 mourners, including other monarchs and heads of state.
Inside the Abbey, Their Majesties sat alongside Felipe's parents, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, and were surrounded by other royals from around the world. Thanks to family ties that date back generations, many European royals have a close relationship to the British royal family.
Queen Letizia looked sombre in all black, while King Felipe VI wore his military uniform.
The dress is by Carolina Herrera and the design was part of the Pre-Fall 2018 collection. The long-sleeved frock features a round neckline and decorative buttons at the shoulders. The A-line skirt is accented with side pleats and hits at the knee. Queen Letizia had it extended to a midi length.
The Spanish queen wore a black veiled headpiece, handmade by Cherubina's in-house milliner.
It is the aptly named 'Elisabeth' halo (€250), made from bouclé and finished with a bow at the back and net veil.
Letizia carried her Giorgio Armani La Charniere Doree Top Handle Bag, and on her feet were her black Manolo Blahnik BB snakeskin-embossed pumps.
She finished the solemn look with her Chanel 'Plume' earrings.
The King and Queen of Spain traveled to London on Sunday to attend the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II which will take place on Monday morning at Westminster Abbey. Upon arrival, Their Majesties visited the Spanish Embassy. Queen Letizia wore a black dress and paid homage to British royalty by wearing Queen Ena's 'joyas de pasar' pearl and diamond brooch.
Queen Ena, born in 1887 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland was the youngest grand daughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. She became the Queen of Spain as the wife of King Alfonso XIII from their marriage in 1906. She created the 'joyas de pasar' - a collection of Spanish royal jewels that passes from monarch to monarch. The photograph below shows Queen Ena wearing the brooch circa 1920's.
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia later paid their respects at Westminster Hall where Queen Elizabeth II lays in state.
Shortly after, the royal couple joined King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia along with Heads of States from around the world at Buckingham Palace for a reception.
Queen Letizia teamed a simple black pencil skirt with a black Carolina Herrera blouse featuring a tonal floral applique. She accessorized with diamond cluster earrings.
The blouse appears to be from the Spring 2020 collection as it shares design elements with other pieces found in the set.
