The reception, held annually for the New Year, serves as an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic relations, promote international cooperation, and celebrate the diversity of the diplomatic community in Spain. The event typically attracts around 1,200 guests, and Their Majesties greet diplomats and ambassadors upon their arrival in the Throne Room of the palace.
For the occasion, Queen Letizia revived a sapphire blue taffeta gown that she had previously worn during the Pascua Militar ceremony in 2022 (shown below).

Featuring long sleeves, a v-neckline, stand collar, a buttoned front, a self-tie belt, and a full skirt, the fabric of the gown boasts a tonal moiré pattern throughout. The designer of the piece is still unknown.

Today, Queen Letizia acessoried the dress with familiar diamond and sapphire jewellery.

The pearl, diamond, and sapphire cluster earrings, originally belonging to Princess María de las Mercedes of Bourbon-Two Sicilies (King Felipe's paternal grandmother), were complemented by a necklace received as a gift from her in-laws. Letizia last adorned herself with both pieces in 2004, during the official dinner on the eve of her wedding ceremony with Felipe.

Today, she added the diamond and sapphire bracelet.

For the first time, Their Majesties were joined by their eldest daughter, Princess Leonor, as they presided over the traditional celebration of the Pascua Militar. This event is deeply rooted in the Spanish military and dates back to 1782 during the reign of Carlos III. The ceremony is held annually on the day of Epiphany at the Royal Palace of Madrid.

Following the parade, King Felipe, Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor made their way to the Throne Room within the Palace to meet officials from the Government, the Ministry of Defence and the Civil Guard.
It is customary for royal women to wear a full-length skirt for the Pascua Militar ceremony and today, the Queen of Spain wore a black column skirt by Spanish brand, Boüret, valued at €290. Crafted from crepe, the skirt boasts a high waist and a slit at the back.
