The Spanish royal family are on their annual summer holiday in Mallorca, however this year, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will spend their vacation attending various institutional events to support the social and economic recovery of the Balearic Islands following the COVID-19 lockdown.
To conclude their tour of the Balearic Islands, on Monday Their Majesties visited Ibiza.
Upon arrival in the capital, The King and Queen went on a guided tour of the Puig des Molins - a small hill located on the south-west side of the bay of Ibiza. It gets its name from the windmills ('molins' in Catalan) which have stood on the top of the hill since at least the 14th century.
The site is the best-preserved necropolis in the Mediterranean. It also contains a medieval Islamic rural property, and an archaeological museum.
Afterwards, Their Majesties moved to Sant Antoni de Portmany and began a tour of the historic centre of the town. The King and Queen strolled along the promenade and passed by 'The Egg' monument, a tribute to the discovery of America. The route included stalls selling local crafts and a visit to the Iglesia de San Antonio where they saw a performance of local folklore.
The Royal Couple continued through the Ancha and del Progreso streets and onto the Paseo de la Mar where they received greetings from the members of the Sant Antoni municipal corporation and members of other municipalities of the island. At the dock, Their Majesties held a meeting with the heads of the Fishermen's Guild.

Today, Their Majesties visited the island of Menorca. Their first stop of the day was the Cooperativa Insular Ganadera (COINGA) in Mahón. The Cooperative was founded in 1966 by a group of small scale dairy farmers who joined forces to produce Mahón-Menorca Cheese under the brand COINGA. Today the cooperative has around eighty farms throughout Menorca which provides around 150 direct and indirect jobs.
The King and Queen held a meeting with representatives of the cooperative. They also had the opportunity to observe the process of making cheese and toured the packaging facilities.
Afterwards, Their Majesties moved to Ciutadella where they had a guided visit of 'Naveta des Tudons' a megalithic chamber tomb which is dated between the 8th and 13th centuries. The shape of the Naveta des Tudons is that of an upside-down boat, it was built using the cyclopean technique, with medium-sized stones embedded dry, without the aid of mortar.
To conclude their visit the King and Queen took a walk from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Ciutadella to the port, where they shared a lunch with the Balearic authorities who accompanied them on the visit to the Menorcan towns.

For their first outing in Mallorca, Their Majesties, accompanied by Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and Infanta Sofia headed to Petra to visit the birthplace, museum and convent - emblematic of the life and work of Saint Junípero Serra Ferrer. He was an 18th-century Franciscan friar, founder of missions in America, beatified in 1988 by Pope John Paul the Second and canonized in 2015 by Pope Francis.
The royals toured the Family House (birthplace) located on Barracar Alt Street in the municipality of Petra in Mallorca. It is a characteristic example of the traditional dwelling of the peasantry of the Mallorcan interior in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses visited Museo de Fray Junípero Serra, created by the Pare Serra Friends Association in 1959, in a building adjacent to the Family House. The museum brings together paintings, prints, medals, sculptures, reliefs, engravings, photographs and models related to the places of the Saint's work.
Concluding their trip, they received a guided tour of Santuari de la Mare de Déu de Bonay, considered the last place where Saint Junípero Serra Ferrer preached before going to America. The sanctuary contains a relic of the body and the coffin, including a temporary exhibition of 30 paintings by Juan Ros Marí that show the Saint's life in Mallorca and America.
It was sweet to see big sister Leonor helping Sofia who needed a crutch during a walk through the streets of Petra. The young princess injured her right knee and it's reported she required stitches.
