Queen Letizia makes double debut in Vienna for Dalí – Freud exhibition

The King and Queen of Spain traveled to Austria today for the inauguration of the exhibition 'Dalí – Freud, an Obsession’ at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna.

Following their arrival, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia went to the Hofburg Imperial Palace where they were received by the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, H. E. Alexander Van Der Bellen and the First Lady, Doris Schmidauer.
Subsequently, King Felipe held a meeting with the Austrian President, in which delegations from both countries participated, while Queen Letizia held a meeting with the First Lady on matters of work of common interest.

Following lunch, Their Majesties, together with the President of Austria and the First Lady laid a wreath in memory of all the victims of National Socialism, and the Spanish victims in Mauthausen.
Their final stop was the Belvedere Museum where King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia inaugurated the 'Dalí – Freud, an Obsession’ exhibition alongside the President and First Lady of Austria.

The exhibition displays around a hundred of Dali's objects, paintings, and works that were influenced by Sigmund Freud's  writings.  It also examines the 1938 meeting between the Spanish artist and the Austrian psychoanalyst.

The Queen of Spain, as Honorary President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and its Scientific Foundation, chaired a working meeting with members of the National Council of AECC.

Her Majesty presented the 2021 Medal of Honor of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando to the Hispania Nostra Association, a non-profit entity founded in 1976 for the protection, promotion and enhancement of Spanish cultural and natural heritage.

The Queen of Spain, in her role as Honorary President of the Foundation for Help Against Drug Addiction (FAD), chaired the meeting of its Board of Trustees, and the subsequent event (In)fórmate: Critical Thinking and Media Literacy.

Held at the Google Campus in Madrid, the outcomes of (In)fórmate, a collaboration between Google and FAD that trained more than 32,000 adolescents against disinformation in media literacy and critical thinking were discussed.  
Queen Letizia stayed on to watch the "Surf the Net" presentation, a new project that Google and FAD will develop over the next two years to promote digital citizenship among schoolchildren from 12 to 18 years old.

FITUR is an annual event for tourism professionals from around the world and is the main trade fair in Latin America.  ​The five day event at IFEMA Recinto Ferial (fairgrounds) will bring together thousands of tourism companies from over 100 countries.  This year, the Dominican Republic is the guest country of the FITUR 2022 edition.

Queen Letizia revived a vintage Valentino ensemble that belonged to her mother-in-law, Queen Sofia.

The vintage number consists of a green drop-waist maxi skirt and a delicate pink floral embroidered blouse. Letizia modified the original pink corded belt for today’s diplomatic reception.

This is not the first occasion Queen Letizia has worn a vintage garment from Queen Sofia's wardrobe.   She first sported a dress from Sofia’s wardrobe in January 2018 for King Don Juan Carlos 80th Birthday celebration.

Queen Letizia debuts blue silk moiré gown for Pascua Militar parade

The King & Queen of Spain undertook their first public engagement of 2022 on January 6th.

​​Their Majesties presided over the traditional celebration of the Pascua Militar, which is deeply rooted in the Spanish military and dates back to 1782 during the reign of Carlos III. The ceremony is held annually on the day of Epiphany at the Royal Palace of Madrid.

Following the parade, King Felipe and Queen Letizia made their way to the Throne Room within the Palace to meet officials from the Government, the Ministry of Defence and the Civil Guard.

As tradition dedicates, Queen Letizia wore a long dress. It is customary for royal women to wear a full length gown for the Pascua Militar ceremony. ​

Pinned to her chest was the 'joyas de pasar' pearl and diamond brooch set aside by Queen Victoria Eugenia (Ena) for the excusive use of Spanish queens. Queen Ena described it as "a brooch with a large pale gray pearl surrounded by diamonds and from which hangs a pear-shaped pearl".  During the ceremony, the brooch fell and King Felipe picked it up for her.
