The
Fundéu BBVA (Fundéu being an acronym for Foundation of Emerging Spanish) is a non-profit organization created in February 2005 in Madrid with an objective to maintain the unity and “purity” of the Spanish language.

Letizia offset the pattered coat with an all-red ensemble. The new pieces are also by the German brand. She teamed the Hugo Boss 'Frankie' dark red cuff detail wool sweater (RRP $195 - now Price $116.98) with the Hugo Boss 'Trima' dark red cropped wide-leg trousers (RRP £219 - now £149).

Letizia opted for familiar black leather accessories. She carried her Hugo Boss 'Fanila' clutch, and on her feet where a custom pair of Magrit pumps.

I love this whole outfit. The 3/4 length cheetah print coat is beautiful and striking and looks wonderful with the dark red. The buttons on the cuffs are a nice detail and I like the belt on the pants. The dark red is a great colour and brightens up Letizia's complexion. She has looked a bit pale lately. One small complaint- the cropped pants look a bit odd in the middle of winter. They are more of a warm weather style (in my opinion).

Sandy, I agree that the combo of the coat and red sweater and pants works really well. It adds a lot of color pop to the coat. Also, her hair and make-up look lovely.

I don't like wide leg crops as a rule as the proportions can easily look inelegant but Letizia really rocks them here. The slightly clownish undertone of the style is somehow embraced by the fun cheetah print and yet the whole comes together as a masterclass in easy sophistication. Kudos to Boss for being behind all the outfit pieces. Black accessories perfect.

Are the shoes new ? A bit chilly in Madrid today for those trousers. It is snowing by the Sierra. The North of Spain is totally covered by the snow.

This outfit leans towards those trendy mismatched looks that leave an impression. A pair of cordovan knee high boots, the pant leg tapered to the same width as the black or navy ones she owns and a camel coat would create a new look. Btw, today, traces of this look can be found in the king's tie.

Interesting attire. I noticed that she almost never wears tights. Strage to do this even during winter.

Tights are no longer a fashion staple. In winter 8 out of 10 women wear pants, and it is not uncommon to see bare ankles on cropped pants and jeans with tennis shoes. In this case warm home, warm car, a few feet to the venue and repeat. No tights police needed.

I think the winter in Spain must be very mild in order to get away with bare ankles. Where I am we just got 33 cm of snow with a windchill of -30 Celsius. Bare skin with freeze in a matter of minutes. I envy you lucky Spaniards!

It depends on the region, there are 15 different climates and subclimates. The North and Centre of Spain has more rain and snow, however the minimus temperature is never below 0 Celsius degrees in the afternoon, about -5 during the night. The climate is similar to UK.
Madrid is very high, a plateau , but never is bellow freezing during the day in the city, the towns by the mountains are colder. You can ski at 25kms from the city.
In the South and East they have about 17C degrees in the afternoon the Mediterranean...3/4 in the morning.
Also Spain is the second most montanous Country in Europe after Switzerland so by the mountains they reach -15Celsius.There are 35 ski resorts in Spain.
Obviously nothing similar to the Scandinavian countries or USA, or Canada.

Sandy, I was just reading an article about Meghan Markle and ladies in the comment section are discussing if she is cold or not because she was bare-legged in the cold London. And one lady says: "Meghan is used to Canadian winter, and after that, this is all nothing to her". :)

Maya, that's right. Meghan did live here for a while so London winter will be warm for her.. Not to get too off topic but since we were discussing Letizia's cropped pants I think it's amazing how the differences in climate can have such a strong influence on our clothing. Here in Canada it is unheard of to go barelegged in the heart of winter. We get frostbite and hypothermia warnings! The cold is life threatening.
