Queen Letizia joined her husband King Felipe VI on Tuesday to deliver the 36th edition of "la Caixa" scholarships to 120 Spanish students selected for postgraduate studies at the best universities around the world.
Her Majesty brought back the navy floral Hugo Boss BOSS 'Viplisa' pleated skirt first worn at a luncheon for the visiting President of Palestine last November. The skirt originally retailed for £270 but is currently discounted down to £81 at Flannels (while stocks last).
Letizia restyled the look with a new ice blue knit top. It is the Hugo Boss BOSS 'Frankie' cuff detail sweater (£139) crafted in a merino-quality mercerised virgin wool, and finished with metallic buttons at the cuffs.
Queen Letizia arrived at the venue in Madrid wearing a new navy trench coat. It is the Hugo Boss 'Cirala' coat - a style she debuted in beige only a few days ago when visiting KIng Juan Carlos in hospital.
She complemented the tonal blue set with her navy Magrit 'Mónica' patent leather pumps and CH Carolina Herrera 'Baret' flap clutch bag in navy leather.
Letizia released a new pair of earrings for the occasion from her go-to Spanish jeweller, Coolook. They from the brand's 'Rain' collection and combine gold-plated hoops (€56) with the 'Rain' pendant (€99). The large pendant features a Chalcedony teardrop stone in a gold-plated setting with two topaz gems on either side.
The interchangeable pieces can be bought separately, however Coolook also offers a readymade pair of earrings with a smaller chalcedony drop (€190).
Their Majesties have presided over the "la Caixa" scholarship presentations since 2015, taking on the role from Felipe's parents following his acendension to the throne in 2014. Letizia's outfit this year was a modest deviation from the sleek sheath dresses she wore in the past. Which do you prefer?

The earings are part of an initiative promoted by Irene Villa, and 100% of the profit from its sale will be used to finance a project in collaboration with the AUARA solidarity company to bring drinking water to areas of need. They are a limited edition, also available in pendant, and cost 190 euros.

The mustard top originally worn with this skirt didn't do it justice. It looks so much better with the pale blue sweater. Buttons on the cuffs are a nice touch. I love the shoes. The diagonal strap across the front is so beautiful.

I will comment this outfit by the sheer plesure of leaving a comment. I have no idea if I like this look or not. Theoretically all the pieces are beautiful, they match, they have quality but... I have no idea. Something is off. It's like when you are on a summer vacation near de beach, and it starts raining. Yes you are on vacation, you are not working, you are having fun, but it's raining.

It looks as though 2018 may be colder than 2017 and 2016, hence the choice of a long sleeved sweater over a sleeveless dress.

It has been snowing until now this year. The Sierra of Madrid is covered, freezing. Finally it seems today we will reach 18Cin the afternoon, 4C in the morning though. Finally spring is coming.

I love this Viplisa skirt, such a great print and wonderful movement from the pleating. But Letizia is struggling to find a top that works well with it. The heavy gold didn't really feature in the print and this pale blue HB looks washed out in the photos. I like the button detailing on the cuffs but it doesn't have enough character to hold its own against such a pronounced skirt. Love the shoes.

I think she looks so lovely. The shoes are beautiful, but I would like to see her in lower heels. All her high heels are so unhealthy for her feet and back.

You should have in mind that she wears heels for two hours and not walking.... it's not the whole day...

I like this outfit...especially the sweater with the detail on the cuff. The shoes are adorable.

This sweater is really bland, something I would imagine she would wear in the comfort of her own home, but not to a tie event. To me she looks a little bit like Felipe's interpreter in that picture you posted, Elizabeth. Nuria, thanks for the info re the earrings - a great initiative, a donation of 100% of the profit is unusually generous! The earrings are pretty and I hope they sell a lot of them!

Compared to Queen Letizia's previous outfits at this event, this is demure but still stylish.

I think this skirt would shine with a navy blue silk top, the same colour as the background of the skirt. Matching any of the other colours in the skirt would look like one is trying too hard to match. T Monochrome is the way to go. Match the background of the skirt and let the pattern be the focus.
