Tonight, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia attended the opening season at the Teatro Real (Royal Theatre) in Madrid with the premiere of the opera 'Otello', a lyrical drama in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare's play Othello.
Their Majesties were escorted to the Royal Box and prior to the commencement of the operatic performance, the Spanish National Anthem was played.
Here's a better look at the historic theatre.
At the beginning of the second act, the musicians performed a song to celebrate Queen Letizia's birthday. Her Majesty was touched by the gesture and thanked the artists and audience.
Following the show, the royal couple had an opportunity to meet the directors and performers.
Her Majesty released a new number tonight, wearing a black cocktail dress by her do-to designer, Felipe Varela.
The sleeveless LBD features a plunging v-neckline and scalloped lace hem. Here we see it paired with a fur coat from Varela's Pre-Fall 2016 collection.
The back has triangular cut-out and exposed zip.
Queen Letizia's accessories offered no surprises. She wore her Magrit 'Mila' patent pumps and carried her black satin clutch.
Her hair was pulled back in a pretty bun which showed off her dazzling "wedding" earrings.
The King and Queen of Spain will be making their annual trip to New York on Monday and Tuesday for the UN General Assembly.

You're right Natalia. When I wrote the post there were not many photos available but now I see a clear one of the shoes.
