The Queen of Mod - Letizia is stylish in swing coat

11/4/2015

Queen Letizia finished the working week in Barcelona where she joined her husband, King Felipe to deliver the 33rd edition of "la Caixa" scholarships to 120 Spanish students selected for postgraduate studies at the best universities around the world.

Queen Letizia arrived at the venue wearing a grey mod-inspired oversized swing coat, paired with a black sleeveless turtleneck a-line dress. Both pieces are new but unfortunately I have not been able to identify the garments. I did a quick search of her favorite designers but couldn't find anything similar in their collections. My hunch is they are by Nina Ricci.

3 June 2015 - UPDATE

It seems my Nina Ricci hunch has been validated!  Barney's New York has for pre-order this Nina Ricci tweed swing coat (US$2,790), identical to the one worn by Queen Letizia.

The virgin wool-blend twill tweed swing coat has notch lapels, drop shoulders, reverse seams at sleeves, slip pockets at angled side seams, and finished with round fabric buttons.

25 June 2015 - UPDATE

A big thanks to Jennifer for letting me know that the dress is also by Nina Ricci.  It is the black cloqué dress (£1,180):
Picture
The sleeveless is made from knitted cloqué and features a ribbed high neck and partially pleated skirt.

Letizia carried her Nina Ricci 'Arc' clutch (US$1200).
Picture
On her feet were a new pair of Prada black Saffiano print patent leather pointy toe pumps. They feature a 110 mm covered stiletto heel.
Picture
Letizia wore her hair in a pretty up-do and showed off a new pair of statement earrings. The dazzling dangles are from Spanish boutique jeweler, Uno de 50.   The silver-plated metal earrings are handmade in Spain with elongated green faceted Swarovski® Elements crystals. The model name is "I Spy With My Little Eye" and they retail for €119.

After a string of recycled pant-suit ensembles for her past few appearances, it was refreshing to see Queen Letizia debut a chic mod outfit!

Today, Her Majesty the Queen attended the announcement of the Princess Girona Award winner in the category of Scientific Research. Queen Letizia attended on behalf of her eldest daughter, Leonor. The 9 year old royal heir is now the honorary president of the Princess Girona Foundation, a position her father, Felipe VI once held as Prince of Asturias. The name of the foundation was changed in December last year to reflect the title now held by Leonor, Princess of Asturias.

This award is intended to distinguish young scientists (including the humanities and social sciences), between the ages of 16 and 35 years, with leading projects or research that is entrepreneurial, innovative and has a high potential for future development.

For the occasion, Queen Letizia opted to recycle an understated professional ensemble, similar to the one she wore a couple months back at the Forum Against Cancer. The outfit consists of a black camel hair Hugo Boss 'FS_Jesila' blazer, paired with a white pleated neck blouse also by Hugo Boss.
Picture
The blouse dates back to July 2013 when Letizia first wore it to a military event:

The pants are most likely by Hugo Boss. They have an extensive range of women's grey trousers. I believe Letizia's may be one of these styles below.

She carried her Uterque black croc stamped leather wristlet clutch and on her feet were the Magrit black leather pointed-toe pumps.

She finished the outfit with her Links of London Hope Egg earrings. which are also favored by the Duchess of Cambridge.

Today, she changed up the look, opting for a white voile blouse.

The top is also a recycled piece but it's origin remains a mystery. Letizia first wore it in March 2014:
