King Felipe and Queen Letizia are on an official State Visit to Japan. The three-day visit will serve to highlight and strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries.

Their Majesties arrived in Tokyo yesterday evening but the visit officially commenced this morning when King Felipe and Queen Letizia were formally received by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan at the Imperial Palace.

Queen Letizia kicked off the tour in shades of red, perhaps a nod to the national colours of both countries - with crimson representing the Royal Standard of Spain.

She wore an oriental-inspired coat featuring a raised collar, tulip cuff sleeves and an open front with tie closure.

The bespoke piece is by her go-to couturier, Felipe Varela and is based on the 'Andrea' coat from the designer's Spring/Summer 2017 collection.

Under the coat she wore a crimson velvet dress with a decorative button front and a tie at the neck. The custom piece is also by the Spanish designer.

Letizia's dazzling ruby and diamond dove earrings were loaned by her mother-in-law. They were gifted to Queen Sofia from the Saudi Arabian monarchy many decades ago.

Following the ceremonial welcome, the royal couple visited the National Museum of Science and Innovation to attend a presentation of the bilateral scientific and technological projects between Spain and Japan.

Letizia made a wardrobe change for the event and debuted a green floral patterned dress ($2,390) from Carolina Hererra's Pre-Fall 2015 collection.

Letizia accessorized with a neutral bag and shoes but due to the limited photos from this event, it's not possible to identify them. In the photo below we see she wore a new pair of earrings featuring a dark raspberry stone and a large green stone drop.

They are by Bounkit, a jewelry brand based in New York City specialising in semi-precious convertible and customisable jewelry. Letizia's earrings are not available on the jeweler's website but you can interchange the stones from these ready-to-wear pieces.

Queen Letizia customized the earrings with a square Amethyst stone and Green Jade drop which I've juxtaposed below from the images above.

In the evening, King Felipe and Queen Letizia were guests of honour at a state banquet hosted by the Emperor and Empress at the Imperial Palace.

Queen Letizia resembled a fairytale princess in a voluminous Felipe Varela tulle gown which she first wore in July 2015 at the gala dinner for the visiting Peruvian president and his wife.

The midnight blue dress is embroidered with leaf shaped tonal crystals and has an elegant scoop neckline.

Letizia complemented her regal style with the "Mellerio Floral" tiara, a piece she has donned on many occasions and is arguably her favorite. The tiara is made of diamonds set in gold and silver floral motifs, and is the property of Queen Sofia.

She also borrowed diamond and sapphire earrings from her mother-in-law.

Other royal jewels included the "joyas de pasar" diamond bracelets which she wore on one wrist, and a diamond brooch on her sash originating from the Ansorena Fleur de Lys tiara.

Queen Letizia completed the royal look with her newly awarded Grand Cordon of the Order of the Precious Crown.

Unfortunately the photo agency I use does not have the best range of photos available of this tour so far, hence it's been a challenge to compile the blog with detailed images of Letizia's clothing and accessories. I hope it improves as the State visit goes on, and I will update the post if better photos become available.

The piece is by Burberry as verified by the check lining shown below.  It has been a favourite of the Spanish royal since 2010.
