This dress is beautiful. The style, the colour, the tie belt, fabric - everything comes together and spells elegance. The outfit (from what I can see in these few pictures) is perfect in it's simplicity and looks comfortable too. I love the shape of the neckline and the cap sleeves too.

It"s quite a simple style but the fabric hangs well and everything sits in the right place. The dramatic arrival photo helps of course!

I'm getting a history lesson with this trip. I just found out Louisiana & Texas were once Spanish colonies. I always thought Louisiana had French roots. Elena, what other parts of the US were Spanish colonies?

Sandy, we may have to beware which reports we read. Like you I thought Louisiana named for French Sun King. Wikipedia might agree:

Yes, both British and Spanish empires were huge. But now British gets most of the glory because the US and UK are such powerful allies. But let's not forget how influential the Spanish were at certain points in history.

Elena & Sandy, thank you both! I'm getting an education here on the Spanish connection & empire as a whole. There's a big Spanish influence coming via South America but I forget how directly they were involved in America at first - especially the name :)

Yes the history of Louisiana is a complex one but the inhabitant highlights include indigenous people until European influence started by the French in the 16th century (Louisiana is named after Louis the XIV) and then passing to the Spanish in 1763 and then became part of the United States with the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. So Spain only officially held it for 40 yrs.

Thanks so much Meresu, I think that pretty much covers it! It makes the US seem more friendly when I catch up with all the European links :)

I’m from the USA too Elena. I wish their itinerary had California on it! Love her outfit and excited to see what else she’ll wear on the tour.

That first photo epitomises the grace and charm of the King and Queen - it's beautiful! And I agree with what others have said about the marvellous cut and colour of Letizia's dress.
