Their Majesties visited the Auschwitz concentration camp and laid a floral tribute at the "Death Wall".
The royal couple then visited the on-site museum and signed the book of honor.

Later, King Felipe and Queen Letizia joined more than 200 Holocaust survivors and dignitaries from around the world for a moving commemoration service at the former concentration camp.

Queen Letizia was dressed in black from head to toe, wearing her Carolina Herrera A-line belted coat and a Nana Golmar headpiece.

While it may seem frivolousness to comment on Queen Letizia's clothing for today's event, this blog is solely dedicated to cataloguing Her Majesty's sartorial choices. I hope this causes no offence.

I encourage you to visit the Casa Real website for more photos and details about Their Majesties  solemn visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau.

In Spain it is said that the headband is by Nana Golmar, a hatter from Sevilla, Spain.

I thought that may be the case!

75 years is a very long time. Most of the survivors have passed on. Let's hope the world never forgets what happened during the Holocaust and that it will never be repeated. I appreciate all the royals and others who commemorated this event.

Thank you very much for such an intelligent and respectful post. I think it's quite right to simply acknowledge the thoughtful and dignified choices Letizia makes for a difficult occasion.

The service would have been most moving and touching. Catching a glimpse of the wall of photos in the picture above, is very profound, so very sad. The Queen was the very essence of dignity.

I have been to Auschwitz and seeing the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation brings floods of memories back to me. The profound evil of this place is apparent throughout the camp. It was meaningful that the King and Queen could be there. Letizia's outfit is solemn and most dignified. She is warmly dressed in a place that feels cold, even in warmer weather.

It is a very respectful post, thank you. My grandmother survived Auschwitz-Birkenau, many in my family haven't. I see no problem discussing the Queen's fashion choices on a blog dedicated to fashion.

Thank you for your support Isabell. I'm so very sorry for the loss and terror your family has suffered. May the world never forget the atrocities of Auschwitz, and may the stories of the brave survivors live on forever.

Outside the exhibition has been the story of the more than 2,000 Spaniards and at least 300 Spaniards (women) who ended up in the Nazi concentration camps for belonging to the Resistance who fought in France against Hitler's troops. Outside, there has also been the direct responsibility that Franco and his Minister of the Interior, Ramón Serrano Suñer, had in the deportation to Mauthausen of more than 7,000 Spaniards who had been captured by the Wehrmacht during the invasion of France. Outside is the sad odyssey of tens of thousands of Sephardic Jews, and thereforeof Spanish origin, which ended up in the Auschwitz-Birkenau gas chambers because the Franco regime rejected Berlin's offer to repatriate "its Jews" and thus save their lives.
Paradoxically, the exhibition does mention, and is the third and last appointment in Spanish, Angel Sanz Briz, the Francoist diplomat who saved the lives of thousands of Jews in Budapest. The text that accompanies Briz's photo, however, does not mention that he carried out the heroic mission in breach of orders coming from Madrid not to interfere in what the Franco regime considered "internal affairs" of Hungary.

RIP.
