Viva el Rey! Long live King Felipe and Queen Letizia!
King & Queen of Spain deliver Civil Merit medals on 1st anniversary of Felipe's proclamation20/6/2015
Today marked the first anniversary of King Felipe VI's proclamation. There was no pomp and ceremony to commemorate the occasion, instead it was another day of royal duty for the King and Queen of Spain. Today they honored 38 people with the Order of Civil Merit, which was established by King Alfonso XIII of Spain in 1926. The order recognizes the civic virtue of officers in the service of the Nation, as well as extraordinary service by Spanish and foreign citizens for the benefit of Spain.
Following the ceremony, Their Majesties offered a lunch in honor of their first anniversary to members of Government, including the Spanish Prime Minister. Felipe's parents, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia also attended the VIP luncheon at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
On this special day, Her Majesty repeated a dusty pink Felipe Varela frock which she debuted on her introductory visit to France as Queen.
Today, Queen Letizia paired the dress with new dusty pink accessories. On her feet were a bespoke version of the Magrit 'Vanessa' sandals which she also owns in black, and she carried a matching clutch.
The bag however is not new and was first carried by Letizia in October 2012 at the wedding of Prince Guillaume Of Luxembourg & Stephanie de Lannoy.
Like she did in France, Letizia completed the outfit with her TOUS three tier drop earrings featuring ruby, emerald and moonstone.
I don't tend to comment on the politics of the Spanish royal family, but today I want to commend King Felipe and Queen Letizia on the exceptional job they have done in their first year as Sovereign. It seems I'm not the only one who thinks so! According to a poll published by the El Pais newspaper, most Spaniards approve of the new Monarchy.
