King & Queen of Spain pay tribute to Barcelona terror attack victims

The King and Queen of Spain interrupted their summer vacation in Mallorca to attended solemn services for the victims of the Barcelona terror attacks that killed 14 people and wounded more than 120 last week.

On Saturday, Their Majesties visited the injured attack victims in local hospitals and met with medical staff caring for the wounded.

Queen Letizia opted for an understated professional look, teaming a new black and white sleeveless blouse by Carolina Herrera with black trouser and her Magrit pumps.

She carried a new bespoke black leather envelope clutch bag by Magrit in the same style as this one.

Later that day King Felipe and Queen Letizia placed a wreath and candles at the attack site on Barcelona's Las Ramblas promenade and signed a book of condolences at Barcelona city hall.

Letizia changed into her black Nina Ricci black cloqué dress for the commemorations.

On Sunday, Felipe and Letizia attended a solemn Mass at Barcelona's Sagrada Familia basilica.

The religious ceremony, presided over by the Cardinal Archbishop of Barcelona, Juan José Omella, was attended by about 3,500 people, including the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Queen Letizia wore a sombre set consisting of her black Felipe Varela skirt suit, Magrit 'Mila' pumps and Carolina Herrera 'Astrud' clutch bag.

It seems a little unfair that when a terrorist attack out of Spain takes place you don't comment on the Queen's outfit out of respect, yet you don't feel it necessary to show that same respect when the attack takes place in Spain.

As a Spanish person, I find that really offensive.

Hi Noelle, I'm sorry you find this offensive. I wrote and posted this blog well after the commemoration services in order to give the appropriate respect and time. When the event happens outside of Spain, the official commemoration service in that country hasn't happened yet, hence why I usually don't comment. As you may see, this is a style blog and whilst I sometimes won't comment on an outfit, I always get messages asking for outfit details which is why I posted the information on the blog. I use my discretion but I can't please everybody and since this is a style blog, this is where the focus will be. Again I'm sorry you are upset by this but I feel I did give the appropriate respect by waiting well after the official services to make a comment.

Dear Elisabeth, I reallly feel that publishing these photos a couple of days after the events happened in Barcelona, was exactly a way of paying respects to the victims, as usually otherwise you are very prompt.
