Mustard for Lunch

20/11/2017

On Monday, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia hosted a luncheon in the Hall of Columns of the Royal Palace in Madrid for the visiting President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas.
Her Majesty donned all new pieces for this stately occasion and teamed a mustard yellow blouse with the Hugo Boss BOSS 'Viplisa' Pleated Floral Skirt (£270). Adorned with a classic floral print in a repetitive pattern all over, this style is cut to a midi length with a pleated silhouette. Featuring a zip fastening to the side, this style is finished with a striped waistband.

The 'Viplisa' skirt is also available at Hugo Boss UK and Nordstrom but the waist has been modified and does not feature the striped band like the one worn by Letizia and shown above. The length of the skirt has also been shortened to the knee. The floral pattern can also be found on the BOSS 'Diplisa' dress.

I believe the mustard blouse is also by Hugo Boss. It looks similar to this draped blouse by the German brand but I'm not confident to make a positive ID.

On her feet, Letizia debuted the Magrit 'Claudia' slingback pumps rendered in a bespoke navy blue leather.

The only familiar piece of the outfit were her TOUS blue hydrothermal quartz and amber earrings.

Seldom do I have anything but praise for Letizia;s outfits. She is the best dressed Royal on the planet. But I think this ensemble is a miss. The mustard blouse is fine, but it really does not match with the skirt. There is no mustard in the skirt, but rather a rust colour. If the blouse were rust, or the skirt had some mustard, then this would have been a winner. Love the shoes and the earrings.

So pretty! Mustard is usually a hard color to wear, but she’s nailed it. She looks beautiful. Love the whole look today. Oh, those shoes! Love them. There aren’t many misses with her. Even her hair today is pretty. To wear your part in the middle is another look that not everyone can do. She looks fabulous.

Hi Elizabeth, I really like this outfit. She has introduced a new colour and I love the 'dialogue' between the mustard blouse and the browns in the skirt. Obviously, mustard is so on trend at the moment, but it's a difficult colour, and all the navy that she is wearing offsets it nicely.

Hmmm. I guess I'm in the minority here, because I think this is a dreadful color and does not flatter Letizia at all. The blouse has a matronly feel to it with that awful color and high neckline. Surprising choice for her. The center part is not doing her any favors either.

This outfit makes no sense. There is no mustard colour in the skirt.
A brown, white or navy top would have looked so much better. Or alternatively a navy blazer with a white top inside. I don't think mustard suits her at all. But I do like the skirt and shoes.

Such a bold colour combination and clearly a stand-out choice. Maybe it's just he lighting in these photos but I'm not 100% convinced that sharp mustard tone is altogether flattering to Letizia's pale colouring.

The skirt is divine and the print genius. I'm smitten by those shoes!
