No sartorial surprises for ABC Journalism Awards

The King and Queen of Spain attended the annual 'Mariano de Cavia', 'Luca de Tena' and 'Mingote' Journalism Awards gala dinner this evening hosted by Spain's national newspaper, ABC.

The awards are the oldest and most prestigious honours in Spanish journalism and Queen Letizia, a former journalist, was on hand to deliver the €10,000 prize to this year's recipients.

Queen Letizia stepped out for the black-tie event in her Carolina Herrera Dégradé Sequin Silk Midi Dress which she premiered at the Israeli reception in November last year.

She again teamed the sparkly cocktail dress with her black LODI straight-cut vamp patent pumps.

Letizia carried her custom black Magrit 'Nassa' clutch.

She arrived at the event wearing a new black coat. I believe it may be velvet or short faux fur with a full faux fur trim.

Her Majesty finished the look with the joyas de pasar diamond chanton earrings - a collection of jewels designated by Queen Ena in her will for the select use of Spanish queens.

The CH dress is a bit heavy on the embellishment with sequins and polka dots. Polka dots are unusual for evening wear But I like the style and fit especially the flared skirt. Also, I am an animal lover and I hope that fur coat Letizia is wearing isn't real fur??

I simply love this dress, Letizia really rocks monochrome. I love the sweet fitted top, slinky with its dense black sequins, and the translucent chiffon A-line skirt. The graded contrast white embellishments take it all into another league.

The earrings are nothing short of stupendous and I can't believe delicate-featured Letizia can wear them like a boss, but she does! I'm enjoying her fashionably messy hair cos being Letizia she knows how to keep it tidy and not overdone. The new coat looks awesome, nothing like fur for keeping you warm ;-)

This dress is spectacular and it fits Letizia like a glove! I love the interplay of the textures in the entire outfit: the sequins, the chiffon, the patent leather, the velvet clutch, the fur (faux, I hope!!!). These earrings are my favourites out of those I've seen Letizia wear, and they cast a lovely soft glow over her very pretty, but angular features.

This is a lovely 'starry, starry night' look from afar although, close up, the white sequins aren't so pretty. Still, Letizia shines in this combination of fine textures. Her outfit in 2015 was stellar, too.
