Queen Letizia airs feathered Carolina Herrera separates for Portuguese reception

On Tuesday evening the Portuguese President reciprocated last night's gala dinner by hosting a reception at the Royal Palace of El Pardo, his official residence during his State visit to Spain.

The cocktail reception was modest compared to last night's stately banquet, but Queen Letizia still dazzled in a black feathered set by Carolina Herrera.

You may recall she first wore the separates at a dinner celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Spanish newspaper Expansión in February last year.

The set from the designer's Pre-Fall 2015 collection features a black silk mikado cropped top with feather and bead applique on the elbow-length sleeves, and a matching pencil skirt with a feathered front.

Tonight Letizia complemented the ensemble with her beloved Nina Ricci 'Arc' clutch, and on her feet she wore her black Magrit patent leather platform pumps which we've seen her wear on a few occasions since their debut at a similar reception hosted by the President of Argentina in February 2017.

Letizia's jewellery was on point this evening.  She finished the outfit with a new pair of gold filigree earrings aptly named the 'Queen Earrings'.  They are reportedly a gift from the President of Portugal from the goldsmith house of Ourivesaria Freitas. They are crafted by skilled Portuguese goldsmiths in a traditional Minho folk design.  You can find copies of the style at specialty retailers including Etsy.

I love this outfit and overall the hairstyle, elegant and chic.
The earings match much better than the last year ones.
However my favourite is the reception hosted by the president of Israel.

Feathers on clothing? Sorry, I just don't like it. The outfit itself is quite basic so I think CH wanted to add some interesting details to make it more original and stand out but it just doesn't work in my opinion. Feathers on any item of clothing or accessories suggest inexpensive and cheap.

I think Letizia looks very elegant. I love the shoes. My favourite look is 2017 s reception hosted by the President of Israel.

I agree with you Sandy. I don't like the feather details either. The only saving grace here is that the ensemble is black which looks classy anyway, at least in the photos. But I always admire Letizia's willingness to try new and different takes on her clothing choices. Plus, she is under huge pressure to keep coming up with new and interesting outfits with all her many engagements. Far more than any of us ever relate to, so that being said there is always going to be some outfits that are going to bring out a wide range of opinions from the fashion community.

Some feathers are deep green so it's not all black.

By the way. What a beautiful country Portugal!! Always the best ally of Spain.
The earings are traditional from Viana do Castelo and called "Brincos à Rainha", as some Portuguese people have pointed out.

I love how Letizia utilizes everything in her closet and that she repeats. This outfit was appropriate for the occassion, classy yet understated.

In Spain this outfit has been a win from head to toe, especially the Portuguese earrings.
Thanks Portugal!!

Queen Letizia looks so pretty with this softer, wavy hairstyle. Of her outfits, they all look great from 2015 on when the hemlines are at her knees rather than above.

You're so right Stephie. That is one of my biggest pet peeves -revealing knees. They just break up the flow of a great outfit and very few women have pretty knees.

I clearly remember this dress from the previous outing. I loved that look, hair and earrings were amazing. I like this second look as well. She looks amazing.
Also, does she wear these shoes specifically to these dinners? :)

As a galician I inmediatly loved the earrings because they are very similar to traditional galician jewelery (sapos). I got a few of them and they look great in all black and simple lines outfits.
I also love the CH skirt, very chic.
The wavy hairdo looks great on her.

This is just gorgeous in every way, an inspired use of feathers for embellishment within a classic outfit in keeping with Letizia's regal status. I simply love it, and her wavy hair is really pretty, sometimes she goes for over-tight curls. The earrings are just right too, I couldn't get away with such a large drop but it works so well for Letizia in a rich formal setting. Patent courts are good, I'll just have to overlook those platforms which feel a bit dated to me now.
