Only the Queen of Spain can make a fast-fashion frock look a million dollars!

I agree! When I first saw the dress I thought for sure “custom made and custom embroidery.” Would have never guessed it’s about $100 online. The embroidery is a beautiful nod to the cherry blossoms in China.

We have cherry blossoms in Spain also, in El Jerte (Extremadura), and cherries..

What fun that Spain and China share a cherry blossom cultural theme!

I don't like this outfit. The pale colours wash out Letizia's complexion. The dress has a matronly style and the floral/bird motif is a bit too busy. I prefer the coat and suit that First Lady Xi is wearing. This is a rare occasion when Letizia is eclipsed by another woman.

I agree madame Xi is looking especially well here, I love seeing her outfits alongside the various western first ladies she visits.

Yes, Mrs. Xi is a very lovely, elegant and well dressed lady. I will have to Google some of her other outfits. It's difficult keeping up with all these fashionable first ladies...I wonder what language she and Letizia spoke. They seemed to get along very well.

I love that Letizia chooses perfect design for the occasion. For example, this dress reminds me Chinese embroidery. When she visited Japan, she wore a black velvet set trimmed with cherry blossom fabric. It was perfect!! Even Hugo Boss patterned pencil skirt ( the 'Marala' model) looked like made from Japanese kimono fabric.

That coat is just dreamy!!! *swoon* Sheer elegant sophistication from Herrera with a touch of fun in the fur-style fabric. And the Asos dress is simply inspired, what a great find, a real People's Choice. Not only affordable but the bird and floral print so neatly references classical Chinese art prints.

This ensemble is not what I was expecting, I had envisaged red. What a surprise! While it's not my personal taste, I think it's really well executed and the Queen looks beautiful. It feels quite opulent, with a very considered nod to China in the pretty embroidery. Her poise and on point styling make this dress look far more expensive than its $119.00 price tag. The First Lady is a again quietly stylish.

To think I could have missed sharing this with you all! It feels so good to be back! I too was surprised we saw no red during the State visit. But that's Letizia, never predicable, and that's why we adore her :)

Red would have been a bit seen as a winck to the communism, Spain wants just to no show that this time.

Hi Paloma, thank you for your insight, I must admit this hadn't occurred to me. I am from London and our royal family remains politically impartial, the Spanish may be the same... Not to compare ladies but Catherine Duchess of Cambridge wore a bright red Jenny Packham gown at the state banquet in honour of President Xi Jinping of China in 2015. Red in China has symbolised good luck and happiness for centuries, but I agree that in modern China it is also associated with the government so it may be better judged to show a tribute through embroidery rather than a colour which people associate with multiple meanings. Queen Letizia looks brilliant in red and often wears it for high profile events so I thought it might be a likely option. Thanks again, I had fun researching colours and their meaning in China over a green tea :)

Jennifer, in Spain the political framework is trickier than in UK. They need a lot of diplomacy, just in case, I reckon.

The fact that a queen can make a $119 online dress look regal is remarkable. So suitable for the occasion. And yes, the green & pink earrings really complement the dress. As does that lovely coat. The lengths, and softness, colours of pastels of the dress & coat go lovely together. Those earrings go so nicely with the dress & those earrings go nicely with the coat.

Karen, I so agree with you about Meghan Markle. It is not the dress that makes someone classy but personality and attitude and style. Otherwise, the most expensive dress looks just like too much effort without result.

At risk of going well off-topic here, it puzzled me why MM has to spend quite so much to end up looking so much the same. But then coming here I'm well spoiled by Letizia and the practised esse with which she can can wear something similar but always with that extra élan.

Bertie, I think most of us are perplexed by MM's sartorial choices which is why it's so refreshing to follow Letizia, the true Queen of Style! MM spends big on her wardrobe but most of her outfits lack pizzazz especially for the price tag. They all look so ordinary and are even ill-fitting at times. With all her resources and what seems to be a limitless clothing budget I would expect better from her. Thank goodness we have QL and this blog for fabulous inspiration!

Why, thank you Royal Watcher, I'm so grateful for this space to touch on the subject without being subject to the screaming harpies that pounce on discussion elsewhere. I find it all too easy to become irritated by MM's picks while guiltily aware that she's only a few months in and it's unfair to compare her with Letizia who has experimented much over the years, with many of her earlier efforts being far short of what she almost casually pulls together now.

Thanks for your comment Laura! I agree that it's a bit off-topic as I tried to acknowledge. I'm afraid I was just glad of a chance to mention something that's worried me a lot of late and I haven't found a safe space for. I continued to reference Letizia as well since I think it's natural to compare other royals tho I agree it won't do to focus too much on a particular individual like Meghan. Must try harder!

I welcome discussion on other royal women so long as they remain respectful and within the context of the blog which the above comments did :) But you're right Laura, an occasional reminder is needed to help keep things in check and make sure the comments don't become hijacked x

Yay, the blog is back! I'm so happy! Queen Letizia looks stunning as usual. I love all the pieces together minus the coat, but I do love the coat itself. I think a longer coat in a vanilla custard color would have looked nice instead of all the variations of pink. ;)

Thank you Elisabeth and Alessandra for keeping the blog!!! Letizia's style is just perfect with such a sense for details and it is always a pleasure to see what she wears next. I like these outfit. It is as always, perfect to the last detail. I especially like Letizias attitude and class so she can look as a million dolars even when she wears ordinary clothes. Class is in person, not in the expensive clothes, obviosly.

Letizia looks gorgeous in all pink…feminine but not girly. The coat is beautiful, as is the inexpensive dress. In my opinion, Letizia is the best dressed royal, out of all the other royal ladies. I also think the First Lady of China knows her style and she too looks great.

I like the coat. There is something about the dress that reminds me of a night shirt. What really caught my eye are the fuchsia tights with the pink lace dress and coat on the model. So cool.
