On Friday evening, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia presided over the 2017 Princess of Asturias awards ceremony held at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo.
As in previous years, Their Majesties were joined by Felipe's mother, Queen Sofia for the traditional walk on the blue carpet.
Once inside the theater, Felipe and Letizia took their places at the head table to deliver the awards, while Sofia went to the Royal Box.
The Princess of Asturias Awards is a series of annual prizes awarded by the Princess of Asturias Foundation to individuals, entities or organisations who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. Founded in 1980 by Felipe, it was previously known as the Prince of Asturias Awards but renamed in 2015 to reflect the country's new heir to the Spanish throne, Princess Leonor.
This event is one of the most anticipated on the Spanish royal calendar and we are always excited to see what Queen Letizia will premier at this annual gala. Tonight she did not disappoint! Letizia channelled 1950's glamour in a white and black embroidered Felipe Varela gown.
The elegant fit-and-flare silk dress is fused with oriental touches and finished with a wide black beaded waist.
Letizia has only ever trusted the Spanish couturier to outfit her for this special occasion since her first attendance in 2004. Letizia was absent in 2005 due to the impending birth of Princess Leonor.
Queen Letizia coordinated this evening's look with her black Felipe Varela satin clutch and black LODI patent leather pumps.
She accessorised with her Cartier white gold and diamond column bracelet and the mysterious ring which has almost been a permanent feature on her hand since she debuted it last month.
The Spanish queen topped off her glamorous style with her gala-favorite De Grisogono black diamond teardrop earrings, and wore her hair up in a sophisticated chignon which featured a sweeping fringe.

This dress is gorgeous! I love the whole look. I also love how the King always has his arm out for her. These two have such class.

Such an absolutely stunning dress! I don't know how she does it -- this combines all that's sober and regal with flair and a contemporary twist. And all that stunning monochrome pattern is really embroidered? Clearly a dress fit for a Queen - bravo Varela!
