It's a simple, elegant dress made more dramatic with the skillful use of ruching on the bodice and waistline.

This is a beautiful dress, simple, subtle but so elegant. The ruched is very effective and suits the Queen's figure well. The collar is unusual adding interest, I like this very much. The black accessories work in well. Love the triple hoop earrings. A lovely presentation by the Queen.

Zara, and Narciso Rodriguez (an American designer), collaborated on an exclusive collection for the high street. It re-explored '25 iconic pieces' from Rodriguez's archive. The ruched midi dress is almost identical to the original from Rodriguez's Spring 2018 collection. Design-wise, my only quibble is that I would have preferred the side slit at the centre back for a cleaner, column-like effect. However, the back of the dress is ruched, making a centre back, in-seam zip closure, & slit hem unworkable. The wool blend fabric elegantly drapes across the body creating a sculptural look in a seemingly minimalist design. Interestingly, Rodriguez said (see link below) that if they couldn't source the same quality fabrics for the collection, Zara was able to get better quality fabrics in some cases, due to its huge scale. The wide asymmetric neckline is a particularly attractive feature with the soft overturned fabric draping over the shoulder. Letizia looks wonderful in the vibrant 'pimento' hue. The sleek black accessories and neat ponytail add modernity to the striking ensemble.

I'm glad you found out the fabric was of such good quality, the dress certainly hugs Letizia in the most flattering way. I had wondered if the stitching on the ruching might not be a shade more crude than couture level, but even so, it remains a remarkable achievement by Zara.

A most inspired offering from this Zara partnership, the Narcisco Rodriguez ruched dress hits all the right buttons. The sharp colour is stand-out, the silhouette businesslike-sleek, and the ruching so feminine. The slit neckline with asymmetric fold adds a calculated touch of zest.

Letizia has teamed it perfectly with the black Zara open front cape and it's always handy to have a spare Armani foldover bag to round things off. The Gold & Roses triple hoops add regal sparkle with elegance, especially against the professionally smoothed back hair into a groomed ponytail. A wonderful look.
