I'm afraid I'm non-plussed as to why Letizia would wear an obviously short coat over this particular skirt. The increasingly dated asymmetric hem looks out-of-place with just the points of fabric peeking out beneath the coat hem. I really like the Caroline Herrera coat otherwise.

However when worn alone with the Sandro black V-neck shirt the skirt comes back into its own, the neckline echoing the angles of the hem. The smart new Mauska bag is a treat and the soft texture of the Magrit embossed pumps echoes the textured weave of the skirt. A practical working ensemble.

Because in Spain we do not have so long coats, we most of the time show the skirt underneath. There is not such cold to wear a so heavy thing. And It is as odd here to cover all, It seems you go naked underneath. It is the culture.

I love this CH belted coat, its beautiful, it would be a staple in my wardrobe (if only!). Just not with this skirt. This is a no for me, the skirt longer than the coat. I don't like the asymmetric hems at all and in this case this is no different. IMO, this looks worse due to the points of the hemline. The black silk blouse is divine. The handbag and shoes look on point. Love the hooped earrings.

In Spain we wear the dresses, skirts, longer than the coats, that thing about covering the esemble must be another cultural difference. We love to show what is underneath, if not It seems you are naked.

Thanks for the explanation Simone. I guess we can't question culture, but I agree with Bertie and Ava. The points hanging from the skirt, below the coat, look odd and spoil the look.

Laura, the thing is that we do not hace long, heavy coats, because there is not cold as in your countries. Only in the mornings, and we have a lot of sun and light. Even in the South of Spain they do not have coats, only jackets..so you most of the time will see the underneath part. I think It is similar in Italy, South of France, Greece, Portugal, etc.. Actually when we travel to the North of Europe, we find that we do not have proper clothes for that cold and rain. In the Mediterránean part they do not need heating, It is about 15C in January. Weather marks the difference. We find odd when people wear shorts at 18-20 C...we need a jacket, you probably wont need a coat in Spain, only in the North about the mountains.

The Carolina Herrera belted coat is well designed and looks great on the Queen. However, the asymetric hemmed skirt looks tired and out of date. By straightening the hem to knee height, the skirt could look refreshed. Otherwise, the Queen should remove it to non official duty status.
