The King and Queen of Spain hosted a gala dinner on Tuesday evening in honour of the Emir of Qatar and his wife, who are on a two day State Visit to Spain, at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
In the Throne Room, they received greetings from the attending Spanish and Qatari authorities and guests before moving onto the Gala dining room for the banquet.
Queen Letizia debuted an embroidered gown by Argentinean fashion designer, embroidered gown by Argentinean fashion designer, Gabriel Lage.
A champagne embroidered lace overlays a tonal lining, and the silhouette features a bateau neckline, sheer long bell sleeves, and a train.
Surprising, there was no tiara tonight, but Her Majesty did wear the Commander dame's bow of the Order of Charles III.
She topped of the look with a new pair of diamond chandelier earrings. The are reportedly a gift from the Emir, and feature a mix of marquise, round, and pear shaped diamond stones.

The protocol with Qatar is not wearing tiaras as they do not wear them. Queen Sofía did the same some years ago.

Absolutely brilliant fantastic, I'm smitten. A stunning pick by Letizia and those intricate lace patterns so in keeping with Islamic art. The lace overlay is a wonderful twist on a full-length glitter dress.

I think this may be my favorite dress ever that Queen Letizia has worn! She looks fabulous in it and I can't wait to see it again with a tiara!!!

What an exquisite dress! I love everything about it...the colour, the rich embroidery, the beadwork, the bateau neckline, the bell sleeves, the small train. So happy that the Order of Charles III, is small and discreet and doesn't detract the way that sashes and medallions often do. As for the earrings, WOW, what a gift from their guests! Most of us have guests who bring flowers or a bottle of wine, not diamonds.

The earrings belong to the State now, they are a gift to Spain, not to Letizia, actually.

This is a outstanding evening gown, crafted superbly. Its breathtaking, the lace overlay is gorgeous. The champagne colour is a gorgeous shade. The back and side are equally as impressive as the front view. The gown has lovely feminine features, the beautiful bateau neckline and gorgeous long bell sleeves, a picture of elegance, cumulating in the train. The diamond earrings are the perfect choice. I love her hair up, very elegant, her makeup is natural and on point. A delightful appearance.

I have been hoping for a spectacular evening gown since the Felipe Varela white beaded set debuted in Morocco on 13/02/19. The wait is over, the Queen looks absolutely divine! Gabriel Lage has masterly achieved artisanal opulence, balanced with refined restraint. The gown appears seemingly demure, Letizia is completely covered and the long silhouette is clean. Gauzy embroidery in molten white-gold is sprinkled with tonal beadwork which elevates the gown to dream-fulfiller, as it glistens under the palace lighting. A discreet waistline subtly defines the waist, and the sheer bell sleeves offer lightness while echoing the romantic train skirt that dramatically sweeps the ground. The coiffed updo provides further glamour and reveals the stunningly simple boat neckline elegantly framing Letizia's neck. The gifted diamond earrings are exquisite. By chance, they complement the gown beautifully. 'Very' minor quibble, you can barely see the shoes under the gown, the enormous platforms on the nude pumps are awful. Delicate muted-metallic strappy sandals or pointed-toe pumps would have been more in keeping with the theme.

Wonder if the platforms were a fashion/comfort choice or a necessity.

Hi Tibi, on closer inspection, I agree that the lace overlay pools at the front and the lining appears a tad short. Although minor, I'm surprised these issues weren't amended at the Gabriel Lage studio or by a personal tailor. In regard to these particular shoes, I suspect this style has very high heels to counteract the huge platforms. This is, at least, the 3rd occasion this year the Queen has worn this style see (06/01/22 & 17/01/22). While the shoes balance the length of the train skirt here, I think it is likely that this style was chosen because it offers Letizia extra height when wearing gowns. Platforms or no platforms are, of course, her prerogative to choose. Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
