The King and Queen of Spain presided over the XIX edition of the 'In Memoriam' Concert in tribute to the victims of terrorism, at the National Music Auditorium in Madrid. The event brings together the main institutions of the State, Government, political parties and different social and economic strata of Spanish society.

The concert is held annually on the eve of the 11th of March, the day on which the 193 victims of the attacks perpetrated in Madrid in 2004 are commemorated. The aim of the Victims of Terrorism Foundation who organised the event is to promote and disseminate democratic values, the defence of human rights, plurality and the freedom of citizens and, at the same time, be a useful consultation vehicle for a better understanding of the situation of the group of victims of terrorism in Spain.

I am certainly glad that Letizia didn't wear the sleeves on the blouse in the way that the model shows them, thus avoiding a clownish look. The Queen is very sombre in all black, which is befitting of an acknowledgment of the horrific terrorism attack. But somehow the strappy shoes and the zany, dangling earrings do not go with the serious mood. To me those shoes and earrings say, "party time" and I'm sure that is not what Letizia meant to convey. Her hair is also not up to her usual standards, but perhaps like it is for me, pandemics and hairdressing appointments don't go together.

I have mixed feelings regarding this top, I don't like it, but I appreciate that it is brave, and it could have looked fierce if the styling was strong (a directional look may not have been suitable for this event). It took me a while to find what I thought was off with the outfit. I believe it's the trousers, the low waist and cropped length feels unbalanced against the high-volume sleeves. If the Queen had worn high waisted, slim-leg trousers (similar to the link below), they would have elongated her body and the ensemble would have appeared clean cut. I also think a compromise could have been found with the sleeves, somewhere between the ruched-up drama of the Pertegaz stock photograph and Letizia wearing them down. The Manolo Blahniks slingbacks were a perfect choice, the cut-out sections give the impression of sandals which helps lengthen the look. I am undecided about the earrings - they are beautiful, but in person, they may have been too long and fussy so close to the sleeves.

This is a top, you either like or you dont, unfortunately I am of the latter opinion. In saying that, I appreciate the innovation of the design, how unusual it is and the boldness of the outline, but that is where it ends for me.
With the sleeves worn either way, I still struggled with it.
The pants, I was conflicted with. It was perplexing to me, something was not quite right with the overall finished look of the ensemble. Then I read Jennifer's comment and it dawned on me it was the style of the pants that gave the overall look an unbalanced vibe. (thank you Jennifer) I am not a fan of cut sections in shoes, but these look good with this outfit. The earrings, I dont like. The length is a issue for me, too long, and they are "busy" looking. I acknowledge they are progressive, and modern. That is where it ends for me. Regardless the Queen looked lovely as always, we cannot all like the same thing!.

All black from head to toe can look severe, mournful, boring and dull. This outfit has put together two fine pieces but it could benefit from a few accessories. A brooch or necklace would brighten it up and add some sparkle and interest. The dramatic puffy sleeves were a good choice for an evening event and it was wise to pair them with straight pants.

A dramatic top from Pertegaz nicely played by Letizia, the fully puffed sleeves would be too strong, and worn with slim black crops it neatly segues memorial dress into evening. The Armani clutch, Blahnik cut-out slingbacks and string Tous earrings add extra quiet evening flair
