The Queen of Spain held a video conference from her office at the Palace of Zarzuela.
Queen Letizia spoke to members of the State Network of Women's Mental Health who informed Her Majesty of the effects the pandemic is having on women with mental health problems.
Isolation and confinement can affect everyone's mental health but for those who have pre-existing problems, it can be exacerbated further. Women with mental health problems are more vulnerable if they suffer from domestic violence which is aggravated by confinement. A Network has been organised to promote self-care and mutual aid, the Network communicates via WhatsApp, it is a space of support and respect where women can express fears and find hope. They have also produced two guides; recommendations for people with mental health problems during quarantine and guidelines for security forces and bodies to avoid situations of discrimination and violation of rights.
On a light-hearted note; today marked the 80th birthday of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. European Royal Houses congratulated Queen Margrethe on her milestone birthday. The video shows greetings from Spain, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxemburg. Queen Margrethe's 80th birthday celebrations were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
