Queen Letizia looked regal in a custom Carolina Herrera midi cocktail dress based off this floral embroidered silk gown design by the Venezuelan-born fashion designer.

On her feet were a new pair of platform sandals by Jimmy Choo. They are the 'Misty 120' style in Gold Liquid Mirror Leather (US$850). The shoes are available at Jimmy Choo, Harrods, Selfridges, and Farfetch.

Letizia, wears the colours of the Argentinian flag, and Juliana the Spanish red. Both honouring the coubtries.

I don't like this CH cocktail dress. It's way too busy with too much going on. There are too many embellishments all over the place. You notice the dress and not Letizia. I also think the plunging neckline is a bit too low with too much cleavage showing. I'm afraid the First Lady of Argentina wins on this one. Her dress is simple, modest and lovely. I must google more of this lady's outfits.

I'm finding it hard to judge this Herrera dress from these photos which don't help us much, it's hard to judge colour and pattern and whether it suits Letizia from awkward angles and lighting. It looks serviceable and summery and, well, suitable. The photos may also be the reason Letizia's hair looks a bit odd and too tight against her head. I suppose the whole thing could be quite pretty but it's not landing with me right now. Maybe one day a repeat will give us a better look. Sandals and clutch are good by me though I can't see if the clutch picks up any gold in the dress pattern.

The dress is blue and gold as the Argentinian flag. Yesterday she wore the white.

Thanks for the flag update, Wendy, I see you also mention it in your own main post. I must pay more attention!

I've now seen better pics of the dress and revised my opinion of it. I think it's wonderful, the jewel tone is wonderful on Letizia and the Herrera embellishment beautiful, especially given the way it's concentrated at the bodice and waist and then goes on to fade out on the skirt. The Jimmy Choos definitely tone in with the embellishment and the whole outfit is ideal for evening wear.

Both ladies look wonderful! I love that the Queen is experimenting with a new shoe designer. It seems that Eva Fernandez and Letizia have heard my cries for a simpler sandal (I'm going to pretend that I didn't see the platform) The dress is incredibly intricate and the colourway so regal. The sleek hairstyle and delicate earrings allow the dress to shine. The Carolina Herrera gold clutch is the perfect size and may prove to be quite a versatile piece. First Lady Juliana Awada looks glorious in red, she has such a natural elegance.
