The Spanish royal family chaired their first opening of a new term of Parliament since King Felipe VI became the reigning Monarch in June 2014.
Queen Letizia and her two daughters, Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and Infanta Sofía of Spain, joined King Felipe outside Parliament before a ceremony to inaugurate the 12th Legislature in Madrid.
The royal family were also joined by the Spanish Prime Minister, Mariano Rajoy, as they arrived to the Opening ceremony of the term of office held at the Lower House.
King Felipe VI opened parliament today after ten months of political gridlock finally came to an end following two separate elections. Mariano Rajoy was returned as Spain's Prime Minister.
Given the nature of today's historic opening, I expected to see Queen Letizia in something new from her head designer Felipe Varela. Instead, Her Majesty stepped out in an ensemble she has previously worn. I believe Queen Letizia opted for a modest approach to her sartorial choice in light of the controversy that has surrounded the formation of this parliament.
This is the forth occasion Letizia has repeated the teal Felipe Varela fitted half-tweed dress since its debut on Columbus Day in October 2014.
She coordinated it with her bespoke teal Magrit suede accessories.
The Queen wore her hair in a low chignon and topped off the look with her TOUS Ruby and Emerald earrings.
