This dress just blew me away the moment I saw it! I couldn't love the colours and pattern of that heavenly fabric more, though possibly it reminds me a bit much of my favourite Liberty scarves :) The blues and turquoise with the defining terracotta lines are just too wonderful, and I am a sucker for a big, lazy, floral print that simply isn't like every other floral around.

The dress is fabulous classic tailoring by Herrera with that simple crew neck bodice, pretty bracelet sleeves, and soft box pleating giving a lovely full skirt without adding too much bulk at the waist. Earrings are spot on, shoes are unusual styling and fresh, only her hair seems a bit undecided at the back. The loose strands at the front are ok-ish but the pony tail looks almost on the point of collapse. I don't really care -- I could gaze at that print all night :-D

Everything Bertie said. Love at first sight. I feel this way about all the Carolina Herrera styles. Why wear anything else? ;-)

addendum: for me the shoes and purse are also gorgeous. Normally I don't like her shoes or purses and have just resigned myself to the fact we have different taste in this regard but these two are my style!

I was intrigued to see how closely Letizia and Prince Charles were examining the paintings and went along to take a look at the website. The pictures are lovely and I now have some postcards and a spectacle case on order! Just in case anyone is interested I'm attaching the link https://www.nationalgallery.co.uk/products/sorolla-spanish-master-of-light

Thanks for the link Bertie! I now want the Gold Feather Bracelet and the Amber Gem Earrings haha

Joaquín Sorolla was one of the more colourful and joy painters. I have visited his Museum in Madrid and it is great.

Sorry I forgot, they are hanged in the Art Institute of Chicago as well.

Thanks. Definitely on my to-do list before it closes. Following her progress through life can open new windows of knowledge. :).

There are rave reviews of the exhibition this weekend. I sympathise with admin over the bracelet and earrings but have made do myself with some of the postcards - they will make handy birthday presents for a couple of friends :)

A thought: If you purchase a tote for 20 pounds and put it in a frame. you will have a print on canvas to hang on your wall. Cut the tote if you wish. Shhhh!

The dress is a variation on a theme that she has employed with great success lately. Everything works, and, she is matchy, matchy with the POW. I agree about the hair, this calls for a sleek chignon.

Travelling by plane a chignon would have been difficult. Letizia does not travel with a hairdresser.

Queen Letezia looks very beautiful here as she always does. Just wish the dress had been an inch or so shorter and still wishing her hair was lighter.

Wow, what a lovely colourful dress. It photographs so well. Yet another successful co-ordinated outfit for Queen Letizia that is again occasion appropriate.

What a gorgeous dress. I wish she could just wear Carolina Herrera constantly. Accessories are understand and don't take away from the beauty of the dress and the Queen herself.

I'm sorry I have to be the lone negative voice here but I think the dress is horrible. I just don't like the huge flower print & the colour combination. This fabric looks like it would be more suitable for draperies or upholstery. The hairstyle from the front view is just a mess. A middle part doesn't flatter Letizia's face. Her one saving grace are the beautiful suede shoes.

You are a brave soul to run against the tide, and quite right too. It's seeing a variety of opinion that makes coming here valuable. I'm surprised there aren't more dissenters as I know exaggerated florals like these are not to everyone's taste. I thought it worked for an evening engagement at least. I'm just glad you found comfort in the amazing shoes. Letizia's hair looks as if she didn't have time to fix it between the airport and the centre of town! 😄👍

Oh, Bertie thanks for being understanding. I notice I am often at odds with the opinions of the majority on some outfits. I need to muster courage to give an honest opinion. I fear I may be banned from this blog (ha ha ha). But you're right it would be boring if we all agreed on everything.

Actually, I think I used the wrong word with "horrible". That's a bit strong. What I should have said is the print of the dress is gaudy, garish or too flashy..

Hi Sandy, I love hearing differing opinions on fashion, it's interesting and fun, thanks for your honesty. I do understand though, I've often wondered myself if I am being too critical. With the vibrant colours and big floral design it was likely to be a polarising piece.

Sandy
17/3/2019 01:53:17 am

Thanks Jennifer! I know what you mean about criticism. But in the end we all admire Letizia's style overall or we wouldn't be contributing to this blog. No one can like every single outfit all of the time. And I do like the way she tries different styles and experiments with different looks. She keeps things interesting. For that I will give her an A+.

Sandy, I'm with you on this one too. Letizia looks very pretty in the frock but not her usual dazzle. I know many people think this is one of her best looks yet, but I just don't see it. Beautiful yes, but not her best

RW, I think some of us are just conservative in our tastes and others more liberal and that's why we have such a difference in opinions on this outfit.

The videos are much better, they show the moving of the dress and the hairdo. Totally different.
Also Joaquín Sorolla's paintings are fantastic, you should visit the exhibition in London or the Museum in Madrid which was his house.

This dress makes me happy. The colourway is utterly beautiful, such a sophisticated palette. Although the silhouette is very feminine it's balanced well by the graceful length and three-quarter length sleeves. It's been elegantly accessorised with complimentary colours, the Bvlgari earrings are quite striking against the fabric. Minor quibbles, I don't like the bag, it's a little on the large side - I would have preferred a tiny box clutch. While I like the idea of the hairstyle it looks a little deflated perhaps due to travelling.... The Queen looks very stylish, but I hope this dress gets another chance to shine. Fingers crossed I can get tickets for this exhibition!

Yes, she travelled just the same afternoon, a plane must not be the best place to maintain a hairdo.

I agree not her best outfit and hair-do, love 💙 her pumps. What I am getting from the big flowery pattern on the dress reminded of artwork from another artist, possible in the USA. I think she was going for that artistic themed outfit.

In fact this type of patterns are very usual in Spain, or Spanish designs , colours, we have a lot of sun and light. She is criticised because she wears very dark outfits most of the time...Hugo Boss, German.

I would not recommend you Vanitatis, they are people against the Monarchy or journalist as Pilar Eyre or Jaime Peñafiel who had trouble with Queen Sofía and now try to criticise. "Semana" magazine is much better, however there are no blogs.
In Spain people use to criticise when she wears Varela and conservative clothes or foreign brands. Due to this she wears Carolina Herrera or Nina Ricci which belong to the Spanish group Puig, Roberto Torretta who is considered Spanish fashion also...
She wears Hugo Boss because it is affordable and working girl...but most people say it is boring...
Obviously there are 47 millions of people in Spain, it is tricky to know what every one thinks...in fact we do not follow her clothes in general, only what the King overall does..., there are no blogs......

The great thing about Letizia is that she tries and manages many different styles. It is impossible to love all of them. I really like this one, the shoes and earings are my favourites of her collection.
