The Spanish Gallery is the UK’s first gallery dedicated to the art, history and culture of Spain.  Auckland Castle has been home to Francisco de Zurbarán’s series of Spanish masterpieces Jacob and His Twelve Sons, for over 250 years. These striking paintings are the starting point for this new gallery, in the heart of Bishop Auckland.

Queen Letizia arrived wearing her black Carolina Herrera oversized wool & cashmere-blend felt coat.

Once inside, she revealed a new dress by Carolina Herrera.  Rendered in her favourite shade of red, the long sleeved dress has a drop waist and pleats on the side.  The shoulders are decorated with small black buttons.

The design is from the designer's Pre-Fall collection and shown below in black.

That looks interesting - I'll definitely visit! Leti always looks good in red, and I really like the design of the dress, with the waist details. Her hair looks different, she's letting it go grey, which is great!

Lovely joint event with the Prince of Wales and Queen Letizia. Letizia looks splendid and I like everything about her coat, dress, shoes and purse. The dress is so plain, that I would have added a long necklace, or a brooch. I do realize that other than earrings, Letizia does not wear much jewellery.

The CH dress is marvelous. The style is unusual with the pleats at the bottom but it still incorporates an overall traditional look. The claret red colour is beautiful and it's the perfect length - just below the knee. I love the new hairstyle but a fancy barette at the top of the ponytail would have added some glamour. Letizia looks great!

I love this dress, its unusual but very becoming. The color is divine. The buttons on the shoulders are a clever nice addition. The shoes are gorgeous, beautiful rich color and the quilted clutch, I love. The diamond feather earrings are subtle, but pretty.

Those shoulder buttons are an especially discreet touch to break up the monochrome, and I feel they preclude the wearing of other jewellery, apart from a modest brooch on the right perhaps, as things could easily start looking crowded.

Very well articulated Bertie, I agree. You made very good points.

I agree that Letizia looks splendid. It's wonderful to see her lovely faced unmasked at last! But I have to disagree that its's a good thing for her to let her hair go grey. Why in the world would any woman as young as Letizia—especially one who is the Queen of Spain—want to have grey hair when she has doesn't have to?!?

Hi Marsha,
I think someone on this blog once mentioned that Letizia has an alergy to hair dye. so that could be the reason. But I think grey hair suits some people and if that is the case they should embrace it. A few grey hairs here and there gives one a 'mature' look especially for someone who is turning 50 this year. And let's face it hair dye is not really healthy for you and can damage the hair. it's also a pain to keep doing it every month or so.

The Caroline Herrera oversize coat works with fine dramatic swing in this context as the Queen sweeps up to a palace. The contrast red in dress and accessories maintains the drama, both as contrast to the dark coat and when the new dress is seen alone.

The CH dress tailoring is fabulous, the styling elegant but never staid, the handling of a drop waist and side-pleats masterly. The Herrera quilted clutch adds essential texture without fuss and the Magrit pumps are classic perfection.

I am in awe of the gorgeous Chanel diamond Plume earrings giving an important note of bling for a royal overseas trip, and I love the semi updo, youthful and stylish. That Charles should wear a coordinating hankie is just the most chivalrous touch.
