Their Majesties are expected to resume royal duties in the first week of the new year when they preside over the traditional celebration of the Pascua Militar on 6th January 2019.

For her final public engagement of 2018, the Queen of Spain attended the 5th edition of the National Fashion Industry Awards at the Museo del Traje in Madrid.
Letizia, a long time champion of Spanish fashion, presented awards to the country's most acclaimed fashion industry professionals.
Sartorially speaking, Queen Letizia ended the year in a similar way she started it - with a royal recycle from her mother-in-law!
The red blouson dress (or separates) once belonged to Queen Sofia, and date back to 1980 when she and her husband visited Denmark.
You may recall Queen Letizia first wore a vintage dress from Queen Sofia's closet in January for King Don Juan Carlos 80th Birthday celebration.
Letizia teamed the vintage piece with her custom red Magrit suede pointed vamp pumps and Carolina Herrera 'Maysa' clutch bag.
She rounded off the all-red ensemble with her cabochon ruby and diamond dangle earrings.
FASHION FLASHBACK
Below is a recollection of Letizia's past looks for this annual event which launched in 2014. She did not attend the 2015 ceremony because her grandfather passed away the night before the event, so she received the winners at the Palace of La Zarzuela in April 2016.
Their Majesties are expected to resume royal duties in the first week of the new year when they preside over the traditional celebration of the Pascua Militar on 6th January 2019.
Feliz Navidad and Happy New Year to all my readers!

I think it's amazing Letizia borrows clothes from her mother-in-law. This vintage red ensemble not only looks festive but the style is still fashionable despite the passage of so many decades. It just goes to show you that classic styles are timeless. I love the sleeves on the top and the crinkley fabric of the skirt especially that unique hemline. Season's Greetings to Elizabeth, Alessandra and all of the devoted readers of this blog. Let's hope we all have a happy and healthy New Year. I look forward to more fun times with all you style lovers in 2019!

Clearly a beautiful gesture to Queen Sofia, I can't fault the diplomacy here and would like to overlook any quibbles. Tho naturally I'm not going to leave it there, as I could just add that this choice doesn't appear to suit Letizia half as well as the earlier grey stripe. In these pictures at least there seems to be a visual car-crash between the puff sleeves, high neck, and Letizia's highly curled loose hair.

I am confused as to why Letizia wears dresses that once belonged to her mother in law. I don't do it…I doubt many do. In Letizia's case it is not a matter of not having the money to purchase her own dress, or not having the resources to get out, or have a dress delivered. I am not criticizing, just wondering the reason behind this idea.

Laura, I think she just liked her mother-in-laws outfit. We know she loves red so maybe she was looking through Sophia's old stuff, liked and wore it. I think it's nice how they save their old clothes and wear them again. I would sometimes wear my mother's and sister's clothes if I liked them and they fit. And vintage stuff has an aura about it-maybe better quality and more unique like antique furniture.

I love this look. Letezia always looks beautiful in red. And though this is vintage from her mother-in-law it does not look dated. I find it interesting that Letezia would wear her mil fashions after the dust up they had earlier this year. Maybe the dust up was purely manufactured by a critical press. Any thoughts?

Greenlee, I think the argument they had on Easter was real. The Spanish royal family got negative headlines around the world. Something they do not want at all. It was embarrassing for everyone to the point where Letizia and Sophia had to put on a show of being lovey dovey a few days later. So no, not manufactured.

I like the festive red for Letizia's final engagement of the year, but this dress is so voluminous across the upper sleeves that it swamps Letizia and does little to flatter her arms. Not a fashion look that has endured! Lovely outfits in 2016 and 2017, and that's a delightful image of the royal family on their Christmas card.

How lovely did Letizia look wearing her own clothes? The top of this red ensemble with the satiny inserts, voluminous sleeves and high neck do not suit Letizia at all. The length of the skirt leaves us with a view of the thinnest part of her legs. This needs to be returned to the archives. There is a glamorous woman hidden somewhere in all that fabric.

I am also surprised with this choice. It is a nice skirt, but the blouse is too overwhealming on Letizia, and yes, it is a bit old fashioned. Anyway, it is never boring with Letizia.

I love it! Even before I read it was a vintage dress I was going to comment how much I love sleeves and that fashion seems to be returning to sleeves! Now that I know it's an '80s dress, I'm not surprised by my own reaction. Just recently I pulled out a couple of my own authentic early 90's pieces. I also bought some new vintage denim with no stretch and the very high rise and got a shag haircut! This outfit is where I'm at and I think she looks amazing!
