At mid-morning of Day 3 of their State Visit to Cuba, The King and Queen of Spain attended a reception at the Great Theater of Havana 'Alicia Alonso' for the Spanish community living in the Caribbean island nation.

Now this is more like the Letizia I have come to know and love! Goodbye sad Alfredo Dominguez and hello stellar Nina Ricci, this is superb, all crumpled broderie anglaise is forgiven and forgotten. Heavenly colour on Letizia and the plissé effect is exquisite. Absolutely adore the collar embellishment and sweet neck ruffle, in the studio shot the oversll effect is a touch 1920s.

I can happily live with the shoelace shoulder bows, something that could normally irritate the life out of me, they are discreet enough. Clutch and strappy shoes appear a perfect match and love how clutch embellishment echoes the neckline shell detailing. The cross straps on the shoes add a necessary touch of contrast to the uniform shift dress shape and the detailing of the earrings also references the closeness of the intricate pleating of the dress fabric. Hair is superb swept clean back like this. Letizia at her best.

Bertie, Alfredo name brougt to my minda South American soap opera? In South America called "culebrón" (sorry I struggle with vocabulary)...galán...hunk??
So I thought you were speaking about the King.

Adolfo Dominguez is a bit sad, just the word...I agree.

This dress is so pale, soft and sweet looking and I get a nightgown impression from it. The ruffle at the neckline adds to that. I like how the shoes and clutch match in colour and the earrings are pretty. Although I like pony tails, I am finding this one a very severe look on Letizia.

WOW! Letizia has knocked it out of the park! THIS right here is the reason she is the most stylish royal! On the model the dress is not very flattering and shapeless, but it hangs beautifully on Letizia's curves.

I think it is simple genius to have employed this fabric in this dress, it's what makes it, exactly as you say, because it flows easily over whatever shape the wearer might be, and can compliment most figures, especially as good a one as Letizia's, without recourse to obvious tailoring. I can't get enough of gazing at it!!

Wow, the Queen looks stunning in this seemingly simple yet very stylish mint dress. She rocks this ponytail. The shoes and bag knock the look for six. She looks so good in red and here she lifts mint into a regal colour. Nina Ricci should use Letizia as theri model - this 'two seamed' dress looks fantastic on her compared to the shapeless look on their model.

I'm so intrigued at how such a simple shape is transformed to a whole fresh level of edgy and original by the choice of that fascinating fabric. And crinkle dresses are so handy for packing when travelling, of course!

The Queen looks stunning. Beautiful fabric and colour so soft and pretty. Shell detailing on the collar is divine. Excellent choice in shoes and clutch, gorgeous colour. The earrings, wow! I love them, the perfect finishing touch.

Very clever, she has worn the best dress in private not in the streets.
I wonder if you know Cuba but there is no malls, not shops, no food enough for the people, they have no clothes. So it would have been very insensitive to show them in front of poor Cubans.
The cars have 40 years and who has a car can't move it, because the lack of petrol, oil, etc...

I was not to speak about it but I guess you are not aware of the reality there. They will aks her to gift them some clothes , probably she has gave them away.

All year, I have been waiting for a creation that would take my breath away.  This is it, understated elegance at it's finest. It's fair to say that I have a huge soft spot for Nina Ricci and some of my all-time favourite outfits of the Queen’s are by this brand - the striped sequin dress 13/12/16 and the red separates 03/06/15. This will be in my top three ensembles of the year, she looks simply divine! Everything about this ensemble embodies French sophistication from the delicate plissé-silk, to the modest line of shells around the neckline. The subtle top-stitching across the pleats tapers the bodice and the skirt gently flares out. Sheerness of the fabric is delightful with the frayed trims creating a stand at the collar bone.  I adore the loose tie at the shoulder which provides a touch of effortlessness to the formal look. Swept-back hair and restraint in choice of accessories add to the serenity of the look. This trip isn't about big jewels, but I would have loved a dainty diamond tennis bracelet (real or fake) to coordinate with the graceful sunburst earrings, adding an extra sprinkling of sparkle throughout the soft mint. I believe this may be an older style dress from the Resort 2017 collection designed by Guillaume Henry.  The current creative directors at Nina Ricci (Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh) are designing more contemporary oversized tailoring with an effervescent youthfulness. While their vision is exciting, I am not sure how many garments we will see in the future unless pieces are cleverly filtered down. Hopefully, without losing the fantasy the designers intended.

So glad the Nina Ricci really got to you as well, certainly one of Letizia's best as far as I'm concerned. My own breath is also taken away by the genius of the simplicity, such an unassuming style transformed by truly informed choice of fabric. Very rare to see a fabric which almost has a life of its own.

Thank you so much for you illuminating run-down of detail, the tapering of the bodice, the flaring of the skirt, and your tribute to French sophistication. I've been too busy having raptures to notice much, especially since I first saw it at about 4 am!! Is the French link pertinent to Cuban heritage, not sure how many settlers there were from France.

If you think it may be an older design, I wonder if it could be vintage at all, in keeping with the low-key budget theme. Agree with you about concern over how the label can maintain its reputation for exquisite feminine excellence, but onward and upward as they say!

Nobody from France in Cuba, Cuba was Spain until 1898 and Spanish descendants still can vote in our elections.
They do not understand about brands or clothes or those things, I'm afraid. The people because is poor and the govermment because their ideology ( or whatever they say they think...)

But Nina Richi belongs to the Spanish brand Puig.

Thanks Simone and Jennifer for the Puig update, so handy to get the background. And lovely to think Letizia could have got a good deal on a dress she's now taken to icon status. Hope we get to see it again!

You mention jewellery, I thought that row of tiny shell embellishments acted like a pearl necklace from a distance. Low-key bling, certainly.

Hi Bertie, I looked straight for your comment once I had posted mine. I was so happy that you adored the dress as much as me! You're absolutely right that the string of shells acts as a necklace to the look, it's the perfect amount of detailing on top of the plissé-silk. I wish that we would see more Nina Ricci and less Carolina Herrera (both being part of the PUIG group). I would love to see the creative directors design something bespoke for her or adapt a runway style, it would be very interesting to see what they would create. There is the exact same dress in the Resort 2017 collection in a deep saffron hue, interestingly from the same collection as the striped sequin dress 13/12/16.  I wonder if she bought them together or if the mint colour-way was released later in the year. There was a huge reduction off of the original price on the Outlet website, I hope she got it at a good deal.

This is a very unique and feminine dress with unusual fabric especially with all the gathering (not sure if that's the right term). I agree with Laura that is has a "nightgown" look but it works well in this outfit. It looks comfortable and I especially like the little bow tie on one sleeve. The co-ordinating shoes and purse make it a very interesting outfit indeed.

Wow! The unique colour of minty green. Those delicate shells details, the impossibly done cinched waist. It looks better on QL than it does the model. Love the matching clutch and shoes. Beautiful sunburst earrings to finish the look.

My only suggestion is to wear another pair of mint shoes without the cross over shoe detail. Right now, my eye is drawn to it in that 1st pic where as I would like my attention to be focused on that amazing dress/gown.

Overall, gorgeous QL.

This is a lovely unique dress. I appear to be in the minority here, but the little rebel in me wants to snip off the tie at the shoulder and push the back of her ponytail up. :) Nevertheless, Letizia is beautiful.
