Queen Letizia presided over a ceremony at the Goya Theater in Madrid today to mark World Rare Disease Day.
She delivered a speech in her role as honorary president of the Spanish Federation For Rare Diseases. Letizia emphasized the importance of scientific research in the search for cures, and acknowledged individuals and organizations who support people with rare diseases.
During the ceremony, Her Majesty presented the annual awards to persons and entities who work to support people with rare diseases.
Letizia looked smart and polished in tweed separates from her go-to brand, Hugo Boss. She coordinated the BOSS 'Keili Jacket (£380) with the matching 'Meili' Skirt (£169). Both pieces are tailored from rich Italian tweed and feature sleek leather piping which gives the classic suit an edgier look.
She teamed the set with a white blouse featuring asymmetrical pleats at the neckline. I assume it's by Hugo Boss and I'll update the post if I find it in their inventory.
Letizia accessorised with her black Uterque studded messenger bag and Prada saffiano pumps.
The professional elegance of today's outfit was consistent with Letizia's previous sartorial choices for this event. Do you have a favorite?

Elegant and modern. The trims of the jacket are made by leather with an ethnic border at the pockets. I am eager to know what Sandy and others think...

Iberia, thanks for the thought. The style of the suit is reminiscent of Jackie Kennedy during her White House years. It's a classic Coco Chanel look. Only Jackie would have jazzed it up with some pearls or a brooch. I like the black detailing on the jacket and sides of the skirt. Otherwise it might have looked a little dull and drab. Letizia looks nice and healthy here not super skinny like she usually does.

She has put on some weight now. After her second pregnancy she lost a lot. Don't you notice that the outfits she wore some years ago seems tighter now ??

Yes, Iberia. There were rumours for a long time that Letizia was anorexic. She looked gravely ill after her sister died and was very underweight. I think only very recently, like late last year did she start to put on some weight. And I think she looks much better and healthier now. I hope she keeps it on.

Rumours in the foreign tabloids!! Her mother and sisters and family are all very thin. She lost weight but anorexia is another thing, not because anxiety if not control the weight. Also is very difficult to be a Queen nowadays!! She was sad not anorexic!!

Iberia, I remember often reading comments on Spanish blogs, where ‘anorexic’ was a word used against her as an insult or accusation. I’ve always thought she’s incredibly strong and brave not to buckle under all that pressure

I’m not sure this fabric photographes well, but I agree that it’s a great suit, and the look is really polished. I love tweed and I don’t normally feel that it needs adornments, but the pockets and trims are chic. I’m not convinced by the earrings in this combination, but that’s a very minor quibble

I love this outfit! It's well proportioned and professional looking. Meghan Markle should follow Letizia's example for appropriate, professional attire for a royal. Modern, yet classic at the same time. I believe that clothes should "age well", and for the most part, I find that Letizia's choices meet that criteria.

I too think Queen Letizia would be the perfect satorial role model for Meghan! I hope she takes a leaf out of her style book rather than feeling pressured to clone the conservative style of the Duchess of Cambridge. I'm hoping Meghan will remain true to her modern sense of dressing! PS. in case you don't know I also run the blog www.meghansfashion.com :)

I'm not sure I entirely agree here. I hope Maghan doesn't get hooked on a designer like Varela with his sequins, brocade, crystals, ruffles and embroidery, or wears Hugo Boss all the time, or repeats entire outfits!

Meghan Markle needs to find her own style and not copy anyone else, to include the impeccable style of Letizia. Meghan did well at the Commonwealth event, when she was dressed appropriately to match what the other members of the British Royal Family were wearing. Her hair was neat, she wore pantyhose, her clothes fit—rather than her usually oversized coats. Meghan is becoming a member of the BRITISH Royal Family. For that reason she needs to match their level of what is appropriate in that county. She can do so without compromising a new, fresh look.

Beata, I agree with your comment. I wonder if Hugo Boss will remain Queen Letizias's go-to brand, after Jason Wu, artistic director of Hugo Boss womenswear division, has left Hugo Boss after five years with the brand. Hugo Boss wants to put more emphasis of menswear according to Business Fashion reports.Jason Wu's fall 2018 collection at New York Fashion Week was his final collection for Boss Womenswear and he will continue to design for his own brand. Interestingly, Jason Wu said that Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel) is one of his biggest idols.

Edith, I had no idea that Jason Wu was behind Hugo Boss! To be honest, until Letizia, I always thought that HB was JUST menswear... Then again, Mary of Denmark and Victoria of Sweden have worn it too, just much less

Beata, the core businees of HB always has been menswear. Only in the late 90'ies HB has elaborated a first women collection named "Hugo" according to Wikipedia (German version). Then in 2000 they launched their collection in Milan under the label "Boss women". That was the birth of the Boss womenswear. The story behind HB ist quite interesting. With their recent relaunch of "Hugo", a less expensive collection, they want to address the younger customers with a more relaxed and casual style. So I really wonder if Queen Letizia will continue to be a Boss woman or if this is the time for a change, it may be even a chance for young Spanish brands and designers. We will see.

Simply a sensational suit from Letizia, one of her best. The tweed is gorgeous, full of texture without sacrificing a sleek fit. The use of dark trim is inspired, the whole encapsulates businesslike with femininity with panache. I could have done without those fringes but everything must have it's raw edge these days and they aren't too prominent. Classic classy Letizia - I love it!
