FASHION FLASHBACK
We expected Queen Letizia to wear a number by her go-to designer Felipe Varela like she had done for the past four years since attending in her role as Queen consort.  But this year she dropped the Spanish couturier in favor of an off-the-rack little black dress by Italian luxury brand Emporio Armani. Were you surprised by Queen Letizia's choice?

When she is in Asturias, her homeland, she is thrilled, she must long for her town, me too!! The North of Spain is a mixture between Ireland and Switzerland.., green, rainy and mountains.....

This is a beautiful black evening dress. I love the side ruffle as it keeps it from being boring or dull. And those are some really spectacular jewels! Letizia doesn't seem to like wearing jewelry so when she does it's a big deal for me. I love jewelry. The choice of Armani is a departure from Varela. And looking back on the past few years he dressed her impeccably (especially 2014).

This is classic Letizia, sheer perfection from head to toe. The earrings and bracelets are over the top, but against a plain black dress they look spectacular. Shoes and clutch complete a wonderful look, of understated elegance.

Her entire outfit looks great especially her shoes! In the 2nd picture where she's going down the stairs...the shoes! :)

A simply brilliant dress, hooray for the Armani pick! It's a terrific take on the ruffle trend, combining enough fullness in the fabric with discretion so the asymmetry is contained within the classic sheath outline. The Herrera slingbacks are perfect, the style lets in a clever touch of light at foot level where a solid court could have spoiled thing, a real party touch executed with perfect discretion. The updo looks lovely and it seems we are sticking with fashionable loose hair strands for now. The bling is drop dead gorgeous, against the sombre tone of the outfit it can shine right out. Clever Letizia! So great to have you back posting here :)

This lady can turn up the volume to 11 without much effort. The ruffle detail and the slit give this little black dress added glamour. It's the kind of dress every woman should have in her closet ...just in case. The shoes are also a must. The bling is always a show stopper. Sandy the jumpsuit and the swishy blue dress are my favorites.

Loved your "volume to 11" comment :) It's so true about Letizia. Her style is effortless and she looks a million dollars not matter if she wears, high-street, off-the-rack or couture! Her clothing spend is well below that of some royal ladies but it just goes to show you don't need a big budget to look elegant and glamorous.

Hey Zoe, I had a tough time picking my favorite because all the previous looks through the years were great
