Queen Letizia gave a sartorial nod to her hosts by wearing a gown by Swedish giant, H&M.
The King and Queen of Spain are currently on a State Visit to Sweden between the 23rd-25th November. Concluding their second day in the Swedish capital, Their Majesties attended a gala dinner in their honour, hosted by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden at the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
They were accompanied by Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia.
Other guests included a representation of the Spanish delegation, representatives of the Swedish Parliament, the Swedish Government and other authorities, as well as representatives of the scientific, cultural and business world.
A video of the arrivals and speeches is available to watch on YouTube.
Queen Letizia gave a sartorial nod to her hosts by wearing a gown by Swedish giant, H&M.
The £229.99 tulle ball dress in dark blue was part of the fashion retailer's Spring 2020 Conscious Exclusive collection.
Crown Princess Victoria has a custom version of the gown which she wore for her 10th wedding anniversary portraits in 2020.
Tonight, Her Majesty was decorated with The Order of the Seraphim, the most outstanding distinction in Sweden.
Also on her light blue sash was a familiar diamond brooch originating from the Ansorena Fleur de Lys tiara.
Letizia carried her custom metallic gold Magrit 'Alice' clutch.
She topped off her regal look with joyas de pasar jewels including the "La Buena" Fleur de Lys tiara, diamond chanton earrings, and stacked diamond bracelets.

Welcome back Elizabeth. I just love your blog. I particularly love how opinions are expressed and discussed courteously. A rare gem on the interweb

How wonderful that the Queen choose the Swedish HM brand for this memorable gown. She wears this beautiful navy gown with panache and elegance. This gown wouldn't be for the faint hearted. Interesting choice of evening clutch. I wonder what shoes she wore?

I wonder if you can help me here, Ava, I have difficulty with the cameo tiara! The whole cameo style speaks to me of fusty older generations to the point where something inside me is tempted to cringe a little. Also, because it doesn't boast obvious bling, it seems a bit like a tiara on the cheap. I'm hoping you can help correct my appalling lack of appreciation of what is no doubt the very great art of cameo creation!

Bertie, the Cameo tiara, has grown on me with time. I love cameo's be it brooches, earrings, necklaces etc. doesn't matter what piece of jewellery it is, I cannot resist. Older generations vibe, you are right. My dear mother gave me my Cameo back in the day, it was given to her as a young woman, and I loved it, that is how I suppose I grew to admire and appreciate them.

H&M is deserving of high praise for creating an extravagant 'Tulle ball dress' from recycled polyester for £229.99. (For those that may be interested H&M created a stunning gown for CP Victoria to wear at P Carl Philip & P Sofia's wedding in June 2015.) The gown feels very much inspired by frothy silk tulle gowns by luxury fashion house Giambattista Valli with its feminine details and majestic proportions. Queen Letizia looks statuesque in the magnificent jewels and voluminous skirt. Looking at photograph one, I am particularly impressed by how straight the strips of ruffled tulle run around the skirt and the sheer panel on the collar bone offers a sensual pause. Minor quibble, it's a shame that the gown has already been worn by the Crown Princess. At request, I'm sure H&M would have dug deep into their archive, or, created something entirely new, from responsibly sourced fabric for the Queen.

I wonder if the 'repeat' of a style worn by Victoria was part of being Exclusively Conscious? It's an amazing achievement at that price tag. The use of contrast ruffled, plain, and pleated fabric seems to create something that echoes the intricacies of a fine 18th century court gown, while being a whole lot easier to wear. Agree with you about Queen Silvia's champagne tones.

Hi Bertie, I did a little investigating :o) and the 'tulle ball dress' was available in selected H&M stores from March 2020, and CP Victoria's 10th wedding anniversary was in June 2020, so she may have requested the dress in between with the addition of sleeves and sequins... Hope it's okay to chip in with your conversation with Ava, but I fell in love with the Cameo tiara after Victoria wore it at her wedding. Combined with Victoria's beautifully simple Pär Engsheden gown I found the tiara, earrings and bracelet so fresh while paying tribute to Queen Silvia's wedding day look.

It was a major treat to have a big tiara event as lockdown began to ease and I loved this whole look on Letizia. The dark blue tulle is a great colour on her and I'm impressed at how the ruffling and pleating can be used to create an impression of intricacy usually the preserve of higher price tags than this H&M. I think the looks better sleeveless, easy with Letizia's toned arms, though I back Victoria all the way for taking to short sleeves as that's something I myself have done all my life!

This gown makes quite a statement given that H&M created it at a reasonably inexpensive price. I do wonder about the tone of blue, for in some photos it looks navy and in others it is a lighter greyish blue. The jewellery is very beautiful. Given that the jewels are diamonds, set in what is likely platinum, I am puzzled by Letizia's choice of gold for her purse, when silver might have been more cohesive.
