Black with white can be such a classic look. I would have preferred for the skirt to have an even hemline. Somehow this one looks very droopy in the back and it drags down Letizia's petite frame. I also find her hair to be very severe. Sorry this is a miss for me.

Se isn't so petite, she is of average height (1.70 m), but of course she looks "petite" aside her supertall husband, who is 1.95 m! Some even say it's 1.97 m.

Indeed!! Felipe is 1,97, his brother in laws are 1,95.

If she is 1.70m she would be about 5 feet 6 or 5 feet 7. That is not "average" height. Most women in the world are between 5 feet 2 and 5 feet 4. So Letizia is well above average height. You could even say she is tall.

Oooooh . . . ohhhhhhhh. First glance . . . closer look. Nice in theory but the high/low hemline looks very sloppy, the fabric of the skirt looks cheap, and the high waist with full skirt gives the overall ensemble uneven and unflattering proportions. Really a shame after the Van Noten dream.

The fabric of the skirt IS cheap, recycled plastic. H&M Conscious makes recycles clothes. However it is more expensive that the normal ones.
It was a Climate Change Conference.
The Scandinavian countries are who more recycle, Spain is the 6th.

So helpful to get your background info once again, Wendy, thanks. Recycled plastic says it all!

It's cool that she wore a skirt made of recycled plastic for an environmental conference! I do wish the skirt had been designed a little differently but a clever choice for the occasion. I look forward to more and more designers making conscious choices in their garments.

She is wearing a recycled skirt from Sweden in honor to the climate change and Greta Thunberg who must be in Madrid on Friday.
Europe has sign a high risk protocol againts the climate change to do important things.
Many people, younger ones overall wear recycled clothes by plastic bottles.

This is such a helpful insight into Letizia's fashion choice tonight, thank you.

This is all wrong. The waist line of the dress points upwards and then, the hemline goes downward. Makes your eye go wonky adjusting to so many different lines going every different directions. This outfit does nothing for her.

H&M is my favorite retailer at the moment (great quality, great style & great value all in one) so I am thrilled to see that this amazing skirt was produced by them. When I first saw it I thought it was a high end designer piece. I love the way the length is shorter at the front and then gradually elongates towards back. The textured fabric is perfect for an evening occasion. The simple white blouse was a wise choice because it is subtle and keeps the focus on the skirt. For some reason it looks like a vintage item from another era. My one complaint is the thick waistband makes Letizia look a short waisted.

Sandy, I agree that you will find modern styling, at a good price point, at H&M, but I don't agree that they have great quality. Many of their clothes are limp and hang poorly. They don't withstand the test of time. This skirt covers the environmental concerns, but it falls short of the standard we have come to expect from Letizia.

Laura, I think it depends on what items you purchase. I have bought some blazers that fit and look great and have lasted for years. Now I don't wear them very often but so far I love them. I also have an A line skirt from H&M that has lasted for decades. I wish some of my clothes would wear out so I could buy more new ones. But since they have lasted and I still like them I can't in good conscience throw them out or give them away and buy new.

Considering the nature of the reception, it was wise that the Queen showcased a conscious garment along with classic repeats, the ensemble is mindful and polished. Generally, I am not a fan of high-low hemlines and I find the design overworked. I would have preferred an even hemline, a narrow waistband, and refined pleats, but I appreciate that this is an older item from 2016. The corset-inspired band defines her waist whilst balancing the body of the skirt, the longer length (at the front) feels regal for an evening event.  Clean styling brings a freshness to the look and Letizia appears elegant, with the textured fabric echoed in the snakeskin pumps. The blouse has been pulled taut under the skirt which gives the impression of a two-tone dress, her perfect poise gracefully carries the heavier style. Hair pulled back off of her face into a simple voluminous bun, accentuates her delicate features and the smoky bronzed eyes are flattering against the otherwise natural makeup. Regardless of my quibbles with the H&M piece, it was important the Queen highlighted the effect fashion can have on the environment - Their Majesties visited several areas affected by climate change in September.

I think this is a superb combination of separates, including the High Street H&M, and Letizia pulls it off masterfully. It's hard to believe that a skirt coming in at that price level could look so consummately elegant and compare with top-level designer.

The black-and-white is a great way to remain businesslike while the skirt is ultra feminine with its generous bell shape and the black all softened by the ruched fabric. I love the quiet touch of the shaped high waistband -- almost corset-like -- and the way it is echoed by the elegant drop of the back hem of the skirt. The skirt is quite rich-looking with its detailed texture and deep soft pleats which the hemline accommodates happily. For once an off-beat hemline is handled to look relevant and not a fashion distraction.

The pleated neckline of the fitted top nicely references the texture of the skirt fabric, pulling the ensemble together in a whole. With her hair swept up and black accessories from Magrit and Blahnik Letizia really looks the part. The dagger earrings add their own quiet touch of edge as ever, and snakeskin pumps once again echo a texture theme, but without crowding the whole. Love it.

This is a clever, marvellous amalgamation of separates. The thought process and choice of this ensemble, with regards to climate change, simply brilliant. I love the colour contrast. I am not normally a fan of this type of hemline, but this works well. Corset like waistband and folds of skirt beautifully aligned. The mock neckline is elegant, hair and dagger earrings, gorgeous. Makeup, especially the Smokey eyes are a perfect finishing touch. Beautiful result

This high/low hem has been out for a few seasons with the front hem sometimes much shorter than this current skirt. Referred to sometimes as a 'dove tail', it is an elegant look with the tiny waist blooming into that voluminous skirt. This simple blouse or a white shirt done really well by CH herself, or Sharon Stone back in the day are a great way to showcase this beautiful piece. The simple clean lines are not overwhelming, and she looks beautiful.
Hola has offered this description of the event and the fabrication of the skirt. It seems that it is made of natural materials, silk/linen.

Perhaps this mag. has done the research. It is always disappointing to read the visceral reactions such as 'cheap' attached to a garment without enough knowledge or consideration of the purpose of the event for which it is worn. The event has been put together at short notice by the Spanish govt., and the Queen to her credit opts for an outfit that puts aside conspicuous consumption (big jewels, synthetic fabrics) for this chic ensemble.
*The red dress worn in Asturias had this same effect at the waistline.
**Jennifer I will disagree with you this time. The pleated gold skirt and black to worn a few months ago were okay, but this design is a cut above the rest. This lady is a creative person. The run of the mill designs will not be appealing.

Zoe, H&M Conscious uses PET in 2019, also fruits and algaes. probably if it is from 2016, you might be right.
