This lovely but dull grey coloured dress could really benefit from the use of some accessories. A necklace, brooch or printed scarf would add some much needed pizzazz.

She is in mourning because the death of 52 women, Felipe is wearing a purple tie too.
Today it was a very serious event, not for clothing.

The situation is even worse in France. I read an article in the newspaper this weekend that stated 130 women have been killed from domestic violence so far this year. It is very sad.

The rest are not the Queen and they are not representing the pain of the country. Obviously everyone can wear what they like.
However I would follow Queen Letizia, she is more inteligent.

Despite Spain having one of the lowest gender violence in the World, however we still must fight against it.

Well done Queen Letizia!!

I don't care for Letizia's outfit today. It is very dull and conservative. Then I realize, Simone, that this occasion remembers those women who have been victims of domestic violence. But others on stage are wearing red, so it is confusing as to what is appropriate. I think the problem is that Letizia and many of us, don't look good in grey, without brighter accessories. Perhaps a black outfit would have been better.

I am pleased that Letizia is being recognized for her part in supporting this most worthy cause.

That's a very good observation, Laura. I didn't even notice the ladies in red.

Letizia is the Queen, so she sets/changes the protocol. That is the root that people see her as a commoner who must follow protocol. It is just the contrary.
Having said that, Letizia chose to wear that even other person not. In Spain most people do not wear black or dark colours at funerals, some of them are not even religious.
So the rest of the people are not the Queen, also you must think that she is doing the correct thing no just the other way round, obvioysly she knows more about manners that the other ones.
I can't understand why you think she is not doing the right thing and the others who do not live sorrounded by protocol do.
As I said that's the problem, nobody askes about other Queens wearing gloves and hats but the rest doesn't. She might have appeared in a hat, gloves and a lot of jewerly, but that's not the Queen of Spain. She knows when being modest and when it is not necessary.

It's funny...

Simone, Queen Sofia banished the hats in Spain due to they were not flatering for her. She chose to use mantilla and peineta (which are even less flatering ever, IMHO), however they were tipycal Spanish and people at that time liked it.
In Spain as you said, there is not a protocol , the Queen sets or can change it. As I said the military events are different and a long "nun" black gown with mantilla and peineta (sorry but they looked like a crow) has been banished.

The Queen was perfectly dressed for the occasion, sedate and subtle, smart choice. I prefer the fabric belt she wore as opposed to the black skinny belt in 2018. Love this grey shawl collared dress, quietly elegant. Accessories, lovely. Hair and makeup, delicate and understated.

It's an odd thing as in some ways this dress ought to seem more boring given it's very plain grey, yet I find I like it more on each airing. The tailoring and fit please me more each time, the fitted self belt is an improvement on the first skinny leather versio,n and I love the folds of fabric in the skirt, it's a perfect combo of businesslike while keeping the feminine.

It's proving versatile for different hairstyles and accessories, and I like the texture contrast with snakeskin pumps, the clutch also has a light texture. I think plain black is too severe, though still serviceable when tried. This time there's a surprise for me in the headshot of Letizia which seems to show the dress fabric is also textured, though not enough for the accessories to overdo the effect.

So often we see the Queen in a supporting role, it's wonderful to see her honored for such an important and worthy cause. It was gracious of her to re-wear this classic design, she doesn't draw attention to herself, away from other winners, keeping the focus firmly on the event while still looking elegant and dignified for the occasion. The fullness of the skirt is beautifully achieved with the pleats placed under the dart lines at the front and back of the bodice, the built-in waistband defines her waist whilst the French sleeves and muted check provide subtle intricacies. As I have mentioned before, deep burgundy leather pumps would be complementary against the grey, for a future repeat (not this event). The streamlined styling and glossy hair/make-up keep the look fresh and polished.

I'm with you Bertie and Jennifer. At each wearing there is something new to observe about this dress. The color leans more toward a blue/grey as opposed to steel or chalky grey. The texture is a Prince of Wales pattern. Also noticeable is that the reason it hangs beautifully, is that the small bit of opening of the wrap reveals not only that the dress is lined, but that the tailoring is top notch, based on the finishing of the garment. There are pictures of the couple walking in the street in what seems to be rainy/windy weather, and the dress flows around her in the wind. A lower priced brand with no lining may not have produced the same result. The accessories are not too severe. In the introduction of the princess in Oviedo, the look was restrained, but the red accessories paid homage to her signature color without overshadowing her daughter. Here the mood is not truly celebratory. The other winners are probably wearing bright colors to symbolize their freedom from certain situations. In this new phase, repeating her more favored pieces gives the critics less fodder to work with, and more of a 'mom' image for the girls, as opposed to the sexy queen of years past.

I always enjoy her speeches so much, She is fantastic at public speaking and she doesn't even use notes. When I hear her speak, I often wonder if she misses her journalist job. She probably does.
