For this morning's event, Her Majesty surprised us with a new dress by Spanish heritage brand Pertegaz.

The last time we saw Letizia in one of Manuel Pertegaz's creations was on her wedding day on 22 May 2004!

Today she wore a silver pussy bow dress from the label's Fall/Winter 19/20 ready-to-wear collection.  The feminine frock features floral appliques, voluminous sleeves, and a midi length pencil skirt.

She grounded the look with her black Carolina Herrera slingback pumps.

I don't normally give my opinions on Letizia's looks, but I hope we don't have to wait another 15 years to see her don another Pertegaz design!
FASHION FLASHBACK ...

It's wonderful to have my blog acknowledged by Vanity Fair and I enjoyed chatting with Paloma Simon about Letizia's style!

I read the article and what astounded me was that upwards of 50,000 hits occur on this blog regularly. That just blew my mind. I didn't realize how popular this blog is. It's great to hear!!! Congratulations!

Thanks Sandy! The visits to the blog have been steadily increasing but the biggest growth has come in the last 12 months! I think people are finally noticing how stylish the Spanish queen really is!

Elizabeth, I just wanted to say I agree that your favorite outfit (Oct. 2015 Varela black dress with graduated layered ombre skirt) is exquisite & magnificent. It's one of her top 10 best. We so seldom get to hear your thoughts that I was happy to get a glimpse into what you think of at least one of Letizia's outfits.

I think there is always a market for a thoughtfully stylish royal who so adeptly supports the evens she attends by her polished appearance.

Btw, I'm not so surprised at the 50k, there's been a distinct vibe here ever since we sparked back from a short interlude to relaunch with Letizia in her best tiara ever. Congratulations, Elizabeth, well deserved, I always said yours was one of the best blogs around. So, any chance of a translation of this intriguing article??! ;)

Bertie!

You're back! Welcome back! Different posters on different threads have noticed your absence and missed your input on the MM, KM, QL's blogs! :) Can't wait to read your thoughts on all 3!!

Bertie

Hi Karen, thanks so much for your concern, I've been very touched to see comments asking about me! I do have to take a short break now and again, you need to give it about a week from my last post before sending out the search parties. I prefer to wait a little rather than try to rush comments when pressed for time because this blog is such a lovely place to come to 😊

Well Elizabeth you say in that interview that you usually do not give an opinion, howevee I miss your point of wieu. I also hope not have to wait 15 year for Pertegaz

Congratulations!! I would like to know a bit more about this interview you are the best!!!

I still don't like it. If she did a tour to Japan, then something like this would perhaps be a tribute to her host country to echo the zen gardens or something. But, I still don't like it.

Nothing to do with Japan, it is totally Spanish, our colorful flowers, our embroideries, bows and sleeves.

Karen, I know what you mean about wanting to like it. I respect the opinions of people who like/love it and I have read all the comments but I still can't bring myself to like it. Even from an artistic point of view I don't like it. It's hard on the eyes!

Sandy

It's wonderful to see a different Spanish designer's creation on display especially since they were responsible for Letizia's wedding gown. However, this dress is just awful. I do like the design of the blue background material especially the sleeves. I even like the bow. But those horrible orange flowers along with the black and white daisies look like a child cut them out and stuck them on. The dress would be so much better without all that junk stuck on it. Fashion wise the POA awards have been a disappointment.

I totally desagree with you Sandy.
I find this dress gorgeous.
OMG I dont see any "junk" on it...
Pertegaz is an iconic brand in Spain, a legendary designer almost like Balenciaga.

Congrats Elisabeth, I also read your interview in Vanity Fair. Your work is very serious and professional

In fact Manuel Pertegaz passed away in 2014 at 96 years old...so is it a vintage or a new one by the new creative team?

Wow, Queen Letizia premiers her wedding earrings and a new piece from her wedding dress designer, after a fifteen year interval! On the momentous occasion of her daughters debut at the Princess of Asturias Awards, this was the perfect occasion to re-wear Pertegaz which must hold great sentimental value to her and country. While this isn't something I would initially be drawn to, I think she looks outstanding and utterly regal! This ensemble illustrates how brave and versatile her style is, if you compare this outfit to the feathers and sharp trousers from the night before. I love the sheer opulence of this design, from the heavily gathered dropped shoulders, to the asymmetrical applique which gently traverses the bodice, these details are balanced by the excellent tailoring of the clean sheath. The bust has double dart lines which form that beautiful silhouette and the deep split at the back brings a sense of drama while providing ease for movement. I wouldn't have automatically put these colours together, but they form a very unique and special look, the black slingback elegantly echo the smaller florals in the arrangement. This year we have seen several pieces which have given the effect of silk, the two Cherubina dresses spring to mind. I appreciate that this dress would have been at a completely different price level but it is wonderful to finally see a fully lined silk dress where the hang is exceptional. I too hope that we don't have a long wait before we see another creation from this company, I got very excited when the Queen endorsed Delpozo in 2017 and sadly we haven't seen anything new from them, this isn't going to be popular but I would like to see less Carolina Herrera (unless runway looks are adapted) and more of these exciting brands.

Congratulations on your interview Elizabeth, I am delighted for you!! I have often wondered what your favourite look may be so I was happy to finally find out.

Jennifer, DelPozo is very bold and edgy, I do not know if some people are prepared for them...

PS: I loved the sandals you put in the former outfit , the second ones overall, but I am afraid it was raining....I guess that might be a bit tricky....I

Hi Wendy, I agree Delpozo is very bold, most pieces would be inappropriate, but there has been one or two things that I have seen since 2017 that would have looked quite beautiful with a little adaption for her role. So pleased you liked the crystal sandals, it's interesting that you say it rained that evening, maybe she had planned for a dressier shoe and had to change last minute.

This is a very striking and unusual dress. Jury is still out for me at present. Background colour is lovely and soft, suits the Queen well. The fit and length of the dress is perfect. Sleeves pretty. Her shoes are gorgeous, but those earrings I just love.

I have mixed feelings about this dress. It certainly makes a statement and the embellishment of the flowers is interesting. But there is too much going on and therefore the dress is wearing Letizia. If the scarf and bow at the neck were removed and the floppy sleeves more streamlined, I would like it better.

This Pertegaz fashion creation is very artistic and reminds me of a Versace pattern design. I like this dress, it’s artistic and conservative at the same time. Also Elizabeth, I read the article that was really good on you and your blog, your famous, congratulations! ❤️

It's nice she has again chosen a Spanish designer, but this dress is a miss. IF she removed the bow wrapped around her neck, and shortened to knee length , and maybe tamed the sleeves just a bit, the appliques would have shined. Instead, they just look kind of stuck on. All the froo froo of the bow, and appliques, and the length, overwhelm the Queen in my view. One statement per dress is sufficient for someone as small as she.

Returning to this maestro of fashion makes sense and shows a continuity or perhaps the Queen's sense of history. This moment goes into the history books, so having it tied to the house of one of Spain's greatest designers in never a miss.
The fit is perfect. While the appliques seem bulky they do not overwhelm the dress. If the design had been printed onto a silk blouse, it would have been considered avant garde and sold for hundreds of euros. The intricate detail of the needlework is seen in the last picture. This dress like the Varela of the 2018 awards ceremony are works of art, not necessarily something to be reproduced at the mass market/fast fashion level.
@ Jennifer F, always enlightening to read your impressions. @Elizabeth, congratulations on you VF interview. Love the blog, but most of all, I admire your ability to source the garments so quickly.

Toally Agree, Zoe! It is and historical moment for the books.
These flowers are geraniums, the typical Spanish flower. The floral motives and embroideries are very redundant in the Spanish traditions.

This dress is not for the faint hearted but I like it. It's probably better viewed from 1 to 2 m than seeing it super close-up. When you see Letizia in the photos with the other dignataries, she is the one you focus on straightaway as this dress draws in your eye. The dress sits beautifully on her and the soft grey colour is very elegant.

I'm enjoying this dress, I find it original and fun, despite the fact it has feature I generally deplore, the dreaded pussy bow. Well done, Pertegaz. The matronly formality of the bow is undermined by the irreverent bright orange and pink, plus the size and placement, of the embroidered flowers. They are perfected by their accompanying uncoordinated cascade of small black and white embellishments down the right side of her dress. Excellent to have hair up above a high collar and the black stilettos are perfect, the strap in place of a solid court back echoes the touches of black in the dress. Love the wedding earrings.
