The Queen of Spain resumed her royal duties today following a month-long summer break.
She joined her husband King Felipe for a day of audiences at Zarzuela Palace. Queen Letizia wore a new dress by Maje.
It is the 'Rolene' long scarf dress with studs (€295) featuring a V-neck front, long ruched sleeves, smock waist, and asymmetric hem with vents at the front and back.
The navy blue viscose fabric is patterned with aluminum studs throughout.
The dress may look familiar to some. The First Lady of Argentina, Juliana Awada wore the dress to officially welcome the King and Queen of Spain on the first day of their State Visit to Argentina in March 2019.
This is the second piece Queen Letizia has worn by the French label. You may recall she recently debuted the Maje 'Rayema' dress for the inauguration the 2019 summer courses of the International School of Music in Oviedo.
Queen Letizia complemented the navy blue long dress with her navy Carolina Herrera suede slingback pumps.
She finished the look with her Gold & Roses 'Milky Way' earrings and Karen Hallam gold-plated ring .

Your heading says it all Elizabeth. Queen Letizia looks happy performing her duties at this event. She looks glamorous but professional in this outfit - her hair, dress, earrings and shoes deliver a polished look.

Love the hem. Asymmetrical with slits in the front and back. And with the CH shoes, looks even better.

I was wondering when the King and Queen would resume their duties, I thought that we might see them at the start of next week so this is a lovely surprise and they look well rested. It appears that Letizia liked First Lady Juliana Awada's Maje dress from the State Visit so much that she bought one herself, I didn't immediately recognize it from Argentina. I wonder if this design inspired the purchase of the green floral dress too, it is very similar in style. Letizia looks wonderful in navy, the piece is nicely designed, from the feminine wrap bodice to the slits and scarf cut skirt which allow movement and length. There is a lot of fabric but the smocking and light fabric emphasizes her slim waist and overall it looks fluid and elegant, heightened by her perfect poise and beautiful shoes. The Carolina Herrera sling backs were an excellent choice, the open back creates an airiness against the ankle grazing dress. Minor quibble, as I've mentioned before I find these earrings too playful, I wonder if the Tous moonstone drop earrings would have worked. Their pink sheen may have highlighted the pink metallic polka dots while adding a lightness to the block navy (worn on 6/04/07). Hair and makup look wonderful.

I find it intriguing that there's so much fabric involved but the overall effect avoids dowdiness. The bodice in particular I would have thought with that style might sit awkwardly, rising up too high, but somehow it sits so well it vies with high end tailoring. I love those slingbacks too though I find those earrings a bit weird, but if Letizia likes them I prefer to let the matter go!

Hi Bertie, lovely to see you (on here). I've missed your thoughts on the last couple of posts, I hope you get a chance to enjoy them over the weekend. I prefer this dress to the Maje green one even though there may be slightly more fabric. The reason being that the waist panel is smooth at the front, the smocking is only at the back, for me it's one less detail which benefits the overall look and reduces the over-tuck (sorry that's not the best wording) of fabric over the waist section. Like you I prefer similar silhouettes, but it's exciting to see Letizia constantly mixing things up. I don't mind the drop of the earrings, it's the star studs I can't see past, but if Elizabeth hadn't kindly shared the stock photo I most likely would be none the wiser.

Apologies, simpler not 'similar silhouettes'

Hi Jennifer, thanks for remembering me and for your kind words. Sorry if I seem to come and go a bit when other stuff turns up but so far I've always managed to come back!! Thanks too for your ever incisive insight about the different treatments of the waist, I had completely failed to pay attention there. My heart still goes for the Maje green because I love the colour and print so -- bit of a break out for monochrome Letizia there -- but my head acknowledges how very right you are about the lovely blue dress. However I'm afraid I'm going to wimp out here and not choose a favourite, instead I'm just going to like them both in their different characters. They both demonstrate amazing quality for that price level. As for stars on earrings, I think I know where you're coming from. Letizia's taste in earrings can irritate me as being a bit twee and juvenile, with butterflies, stars, and flowers, but then she confounds my prejudice by always looking great in them!

I thought the design of this dress looked familiar. Now I see it's a different version of the green one worn earlier this summer. I think it is gorgeous. I really like how the studs are spaced far apart so they don't overwhelm the dress. They add such a beautiful dimension to the design helping to reflect light and enlivening the dark blue. I do find it odd Letizia wore the exact same dress as Juliana Awada. I always thought famous people wanted exclusive designs since they are watched and photographed so much. I guess I am wrong on that point.

Letizia looks beautiful. What an elegant and sophisticated look. The dress is lovely and the shoes are perfect with it. I totally dislike this dress with white running shoes, as worn by the model. Can't understand the trend for the running shoes with dresses.

Laura, I was thinking the exact same thing about the running shoes. I'm all for comfort but that is going a bit too far. And it totally ruined the sophisticated design of the dress.

Sandy, let's hope this fad, of running shoes with dresses, soon fades. One can be comfortable wearing a flat or sandal if that is the aim. Otherwise, let's leave running shoes for sporty events, with sporty clothes.

Lovely dress. The cut is great and I think it looks even better in navy.

I love this dress. Navy suits her so well. The sling back shoes are perfect. The earrings sealed the deal for me, gorgeous.

After you reminded us, I recalled thinking, regretfully, on the occasion of the state visit to Argentina, that their First Lady outshone Letizia fashion-wise at practically every event. Reviewing that visit, I feel the same. Of course, additional height, which the First Lady has, is always an advantage in making a fashion impression. Letizia is right to grab this look; the dress is absolutely stunning and naturally she wears it well.

Argentina is in a totally bankrupt and her first lady spending millions,in clothes, which is a real shame....while people starving. Our Queen manage her salary very well, she does not need to outshone anyone, she is s very clever woman who works a lot for her country, she is working not shooting a film, which in other countries should think about ..

Maybe Juliana gave Letizia the dress as a gift.

Oh dear, I'm sorely lagging behind as life keeps demanding my full attention. This Rolene style is a lovely dress from Maje and Letizia wears it with aplomb. I say this despite not being so fond of these loose drapey garments as I am of sleek tailored silhouettes. However, I can fully appreciate this must be more comfy to wear and perhaps more approachable for a session of audiences.
