King Felipe and Queen Letizia marked Armed Forces Day with events at the Paseo de Cristóbal Colón in the city of Seville.  The annual occasion honours men and women who serve/served in the Spanish armed forces.

She wore the brand's 'Suzie' dress (€280).  Made in Spain, the midi dress is crafted from in high quality crepe and features a cross-over design with short sleeves. It is cut at the waist with a button and a plunging neckline.

Queen Letizia opted for tonal accessories. She carried her Magrit 'Kares' clutch bag in a custom red suede, and on her feet she wore her red leather almond toe pumps (which still remain unidentified).

Love everything about this monochromatic, red look. Dress is very interesting with the drape of the skirt. The shoes, clutch and earrings coordinate so well.

The back: I hope it appears well and not duplicated as the former time, sorry;

I really wanted to love this 1940's influenced tea dress, but this ensemble looks best in distant shots which leads me to believe that there are too many details. On the bodice the pleats may have been more aesthetically pleasing if they had been placed at the shoulder and had been accomplished more delicately, there is too much fabric, it looks heavy. I wouldn't have put the gathers at the back, above and below the waist panel and so densely on the sleeves. The skirt I would have cut on the bias and reduced the fabric quantity in the waterfall. For me, this piece needed tweaking and if it had been made in lined silk it could have been wonderful. Red is such a good colour for the Queen, she compliments King Felipe's uniform beautifully. It's great to see a new designer showcased and the price wasn't overly expensive. After Letizia's hair being worn down for a long run it's refreshing to see it up, the soft style combined with the cabochon ruby and diamond earrings works well with the vintage feel of the dress.

I really liked the skirt suit from 2016. If the jacket had been a little more structured an met across the chest (not requiring a top underneath) I think it would have been really impressive and looked amazing with tailored trousers. The clutch was a little contrived and I found myself wishing for black court shoes.

It is the typical costume of Sevilla, these kind of dresses have ages, it is what women have always worn to weddings.

That is what happens with some designers in the South of the Country, they are very regionals...Those pleats are called "jaretas" and the twist "volantes"...
You can take a look to her web..

Sandy, I do not think, she has quit because here Varela and that style is considered horrid and matronly. I reckon she has never repeated that suit. She has not that style because that not represent the country nowadays, nobody dresses like that. That was how women used to dress but not for working, and here people is interested in her work more than in fashion.

Hi Simone, It was very thoughtful of Letizia to wear a designer and style of the region. I commend the time and research that went into choosing this piece, I'm pleased to see that it has got such favourable reviews here! Thank you for the Spanish word for pleats, I will always try and think of them as 'jaretas' here.

Wendy, it's interesting that the 2016 suit is considered matronly in Spain. I thought the 2018 outfit looked very matronly also maternity.
If I compare 2016, 2017 and 2018 I think 2018 is the most matronly of the three.

Sandy, 2018 matronly? Sonething an old woman would wear?? It is just the contrary, at leats here.

My mum says that back in the day women used to be very elegant, but nowadays a disaster, no heels, no weekly hairdresser, no suits....Men used to wear a tie everyday too...

She tell me off when I go out without make-up....😂

I agree the 2016 suit was sensational. I also really like the dress from 2017. Those were the years when Letizia really shined fashion wise. I hope she can re-gain the superb style she once had.

Hi Sandy, I agree, the Carolina Herrera sheath was very elegant. I'm sorry to say that I just couldn't see beyond the plastic sandals in 2017 but I thought the Queen looked impeccable in the dress on 09/06/15.

Just the contrary in Spain, people do not like at all those Varela designs. She has given up because the criticism.

People say it is outdated and oldfashioned and matronly, it is not the image of the country nowadays.

I personaly do not like the 2016 either , it is something my grandma would wear.

I think the 2016 suit is a classic that will never go out of style. Elegance is never outdated or old fashioned. Any grandma that looks that good should get an award.

Thanks for writing what is wrong with this dress especially the bodice. I couldn't find the words to express it when I saw it. This dress is just wrong, the colour, the cut, the fabric...just everything! Oh no.

I agree. I love the dress and of those she has worn to this event in the past, this is definitely my favorite!

This dress is very feminine with the flounce on the skirt and multiple darts on the shoulders. I like the way it drapes around the bust line and the colour is very striking helping Letizia stand out in the crowd. However, I don't like the style of the shoes because the heel is too thick. A thinner heel would have looked more elegant with this type of dress. Both the shoes and purse in the identical shade of red are too matchy matchy. A contrasting colour would have been more interesting.

Looks good! I would have preferred some contrast, but red is definitely her color and she can wear it any way she wants. The ruby earrings are gorgeous!

I simply love this dress by Cherubina, the styling use of gathered fabric is inspired for such a modestly-priced garment. It creates an almost 1930s style bodice at the front with the structured shoulders. The asymmetric placing of the skirt opening brings it all right up to date and creates such an interesting peek of thigh, well within the bounds of regal modesty. The vintage theme continues with semi-block heels and the matching accessories work well to look businesslike. A pretty updo with those stunning earrings, all round a terrific look for Letizia

Ok, she is in Sevilla and dressed by a sevillana designer. All red as the patriotic colour of Spain, the Armed forces day.
Cherubina has very regional outfits, this is the typical dress for Sevilla, the hair, the shoes....
"Sevilla tiene un color especial...." (Sevilla has a special colour)....it's a song very known there.

I like this dress and the up-do. I do not like the shoes in red. Unlike Sandy, I think the thicker heel on the shoe is particularly stylish though I appreciate why she would've preferred something more delicate. But I just don't like a bright red shoe in general. I would've preferred just about anything else but that's just me. Of course, it's a perfect match and she looks fabulous.

I love the Cherubina dress and, has been pointed out, it's a regional design very appropriate to the place and time. I think Letizia always looks elegant when she wears an updo, in this case a beautifully done chignon. I'm not a big fan of her hair lately, even though I've noticed that others are. It's too long, and it often ends up looking scraggly. It's not her fault; she has a great cut and color, but long hair always looks scraggly from time to time. Case in point: Melania Trump. Only thing wrong with her elegant style is her hair.

Marsha, you said what I was thinking. I've been secretly hoping she would cut her hair. You see, she is my personal style icon. We cut our hair above the shoulder at about the same time a few years ago. I've been wanting a change for several months now but as I tend not to rush into these things, I'm also waiting for my style icon to give me the impetus! Maybe I'll do it first and she can copy me ;-)
