The King and Queen of Spain departed for Japan today to attend the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Naruhito.
They were given a farewell with Honours at the Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport on Sunday afternoon.
Last March the Japanese Government declared that the proclamation ceremony of Prince Naruhito would take place six months after the abdication of Akihito, his father, on the 22nd October 2019. Below is a photo of Their majesties arriving in Japan.
The ceremony will be held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Thousands of guests and dignitaries from around the globe are expected to attend.

Beautiful outfit. This length of pants is so much better looking than the cropped ones she frequently wears. Much more flattering. The cropped ones always make her look shorter and are just unflattering, IMHO. I love the sweater and wish I could find one!

This black d/breasted suit is stylish, elegant and smart looking, love it! The addition of the buttons on the cuffs of her blazer, gorgeous. Pants are a perfect fit and length is spot on. A great choice for travel such as this. Shoes and bag sealed the deal. A wonderful outfit, the Queen oozes class.

After stating that I would happily see less Carolina Herrera, this is a very fine suit indeed. What I meant was, I would like to see less uninspired 'bespoke' creations, when there are so many dazzling pieces that parade the runway, which could be successfully adapted if necessary. Rather than designs being so filtered down that they look like they could be made by a private, talented, dress maker. The slim leg trousers balance the double breasted jacket perfectly. Interestingly, the sleeves of the jacket appear bracelet length and the trousers cropped in the look book photograph, but on the Queen they are full length. I wonder if this is some indication of how much she has to have altered to fit her petite size. The Hugo Boss knit is a little sporty for my taste but it looks great under the jacket and the beige check adds interest and light to the solid colour. Although, I may have preferred a very simple crew neck knit in nude/beige. This is an occasion where I wish Letizia was without a clutch, I don't think the bag adds anything to the ensemble and I'm sure hand luggage was in the car that boarded with her. The trousers looked immaculate upon arrival, she must have changed into comfortable clothing for the flight and re-dressed before landing.

Jennifer, Letizia is not "petite", she is around 1,70 tall...., however models nowadays are 1,80 obviously...

Hi Wendy and Simone, Sorry, I always forget that she is taller than I imagine, especially when standing next to King Felipe. She is certainly taller than me at 1,50. The suit may have been made in a standard size where it's either purposely cropped or full length on the wearer, it fits Letizia beautifully. She would have definitely needed essentials for the flight, I think it was over ten hours. Books, laptop, change of clothes etc, but I think it likely that she had a tote in the car containing all of these items. I agree, that a phone and glasses would have been more accessible in a clutch.

Jennifer, I would have needed a bag, the mobile, a handkerchief, the glasses (Letizia uses glasses to read...)..etc...

I was thinking of you when I saw this suit was Herrera! It does seem something of a divergence from the styles Letizia usually picks from CH, but the tailoring is immaculate. It reminds me of Duchess Kate relationship with Catherine Walker, who is equally adept at bridging both the gentle feminine styles plus fine tailoring.

The black pantsuit is a classic and should be a staple in every woman's wardrobe. This one is perfect. I only wish Letizia would have put a more colorful or interesting printed top inside. The all black makes her look like she is going to a funeral.

A classic pitch-perfect outfit from Letizia, I simply love this sharp pant suit, Herrera has done her proud. Double-breasted can tend towards heaviness but the choice of fabric is astute and soft enough for it to move and hang well. Very happy to see the Hugo Boss windowpane check back, just the right touch of contrast with the plain suit. Love the generous sized Boss clutch and the snakeskin HB pumps are spot on to give just a touch of contrast without clutter. Restrained stud earrings complete the sleek, businesslike, yet comfortable look of this outfit.
